Hope you all have a good shoot at the Zoo. Great photos Grant. I'm going to sleep in a bit and weather permitting try to set up some perches in the backyard and see what comes along. It seems like it's been forever since I've taken any photos with this lousy weekend weather we've had lately.
Wow...Mark sure likes to stir things up, doesn't he? What a troublemaker!
The worst part is, I am outnumbered, so there is no point in arguing the virtue of my equipment...oh well.
Anyway, Robin, I enjoyed meeting you and your daughter. You caught that tiger at just the right moment! Also, I am jealous that you got to see the tamarins (sp?) out. I wanted to catch them before I left...maybe next time.
Robert...I love your shot of town...hopefully, that made it worth it to freeze your butt (am I allowed to say butt?) off so early!
GAry, it was great to see you again! Your pandas look good...sorry I missed them. Let's get together again soon....I promise I won't talk your ears off again!
Here are a couple of pics. I snapped a couple of the flamingos on the way in while I was trying to find you guys. I have been reading a lot of books on PS lately, so I decided to practice a few skills on this shot...not sure if I like it or not. http://traceylong.smugmug.com/photos/58064458-M.jpg
Tried to turn not so good light into something that could work...sure wish his eyes had been looking my way! http://traceylong.smugmug.com/photos/58064457-M.jpg
The orangatans are so cool that I snapped away even with harsh shadows...just could not resist! http://traceylong.smugmug.com/photos/58064459-M.jpg
And, finally, the kids took a nap in the car, so we continued down the road to Callaway. They closed the butterfly house 10 mins early, so I only was in there about 10 mins. Here is one of the better ones: http://traceylong.smugmug.com/photos/58064460-M.jpg
Thanks for a fun day! I can't wait to do it again!

I'll have you know, although my daughter didn't take any photographs on Sunday, she accepts her handicap as long as it buys her lunch on the way home.
Tracey,
Would the effects on the flamingo shot work well for wedding photos or studio work? I like the effect, and I think it would work with the right nature shot. I enjoyed meeting you. I enjoyed the conversations as much as the photography.
I like the orangutan pose.
Someday I'm going to learn how to take gorilla photos in direct sunlight for when I can't schedule the shots for better lighting:
Flamingo thoughts: " I turn my nose down at sub par equipment"
Orangutan thoughts: "why would she use a camera like that (scratches head in bewilderment)'
hah!
Nice pics folks. Of course today (stuck in the office) it is nice and warm outside...
Robin, what we need is a fill reflector on a REALLY long extendable pole that has rocket assist retraction so that it doesn't become a gorilla toy to use to poke photographers...
Looks like everyone came away with some great zoo shots. Robert that Atlanta skyline looks great. Was it taken from the North Avenue Bridge? Tracey, I really like your Orangutan shot shadows and all. I think the facial expression makes the pict.
Mark I think a remote controlled model helicopter mounted with a 380 EX flash, controlled by an ST-E2 as a fill flash would work also. At least he couldn't poke us with it if it crashes.
Excellent images, all, from the zoo shoot! Each of you came away with some superb captures, and it sounds like you had the predictably great time together.
Thanks so much for sharing your shots with the rest of us....Sure wish I could have been with you.
Hi guys. I just wanted to point out that Callaway is hosting a digitl photography workshop March 11. I don't really know anything about it. I would probably go, but I have an obligatory baby shower that weekend. Just thought someone might be interested.
OK I know that this may be a bit early but I was wondering who was going to the Air Show at the end of April at NAS? I went to the 04 show and shot almost 900 frames. I would have gotten more but I ran out of CF cards. The Blue Angels are one of the most fun things that I have ever shot.
This sounds like a great group outing! Here is a link to the show info:
