There is "no photographic benefit" from added mexapixels? Really?
I would argue that MPs are but one part of the quality equation. We all would like better IQ and resolution (not necessarily the same thing) but I don't personally care whether we get there by increasing the number of pixels or increasing the quality obtained from the ones we have. There are so many other factors that go into a sensor that guage the quality of a camera simply based on MP is not very productive. The advertisers want us to keep that limited perspective because it is a lot easier to tout the number of pixels than it is to try and explain the IQ enhancements from a new AA filter design.
All other things being equal though, I'll take more pixels if I can get them.

I don't think this has anything to do with Canon. 1st it is only for a bit more than 24 hours and 2nd it applies to any kind of orders...

I am hearing that there are two bodies yet to anounce... They are not upgrading the 5D, it is a new body. That is all that was said...
Well another source just said no new additional SLR's for this show, so go figure...
I don't have any new rumour, any source, or any information ...
But ... Can you really imagine, Photokina starting, and Canon being asked for news, answers, well, we have come up with a new 400D some weeks ago...?
I cannot. They will have some great news. And my calendar says it will be a new 1 Series camera. Maybe an announcement only, delivery in 2007. But no less.
I'd agree that they'll be an announcement, and probably a cool one as well. Too many little factors make a non-appearance at Photokina the least likely outcome for me.

I think it is exactly what they usually do. So, we can imagine that happen.

You are most welcome!
I have also read all these pages, day by day. Did you read all them in one session?
Anyway, now that you have read about a book's worth of words, with a somewhat vague plot but a few very good jokes, e.g. about fast women and about Dave's marriage (presumably not related though): Was it really worth it for you?

Huh? I must have missed this 'usual' behaviour - last Photokina they announced the 1DsII in September, just before the show, and I believe the Photokina before saw the announcement of the 1Ds.

Canon's basket of goodies was so full they had to let them out in advance!
I think the announcement of the 400D had more to to with responding to Nikon and Sony's moves. Still no reviews out. Hopefully we will see some reviews soon. I am interested in the claim that the s/n matches the 30D.
The 70-200 was a crumb for the current low/mid range body crowd and the 50 for the prime lovers.
I don't think they are done. I don't expect the next announcemnt to have the variety of this one. Hopefully it's aimed a little higher.

I've seen several reviews out. The Camera Labs review has test shots, noise analysis, etc. These early reveiws are listed here, newest first.
Yes, there's a couple of reviews out, though I question them slightly. There are also a few people buying 400D/XTi cameras at Best Buys in at least a couple of locations. They are in stock, even if they aren't supposed to be sold yet. There's some user reports on DPReview.
Not convinced on the noise issue yet, but I'm also not in the market for one. I think Canon has a market winner here, and I hope that it outperforms the Nikon & Sony 10's as well.

I had read the Luminous Landscape and DPreview articles. The camera labs I had not seen. The dpreview is not thier full review. I shoot 99% with 3 lenses; the Sigma 12-24, a 50 (1.8 or 2.5) and the 80-200L. I want some comparison shots with a high quality lens like the 50 macro. DPReview's reviews have that. The camera labs compares the 18-55 for most of their shots. I have one. It hasn't been out of my bag in 2 years. Luminous Landscape has one XTi/400D image each with the 50 1.2L and 70-200is F4L. They look great. I would have learned something from a comparison shoot with either of these lenses. Michael Reichmann said This is not a review. I repeat – this is not a review! Anyone that gets their knickers in a twist because I haven't ... and provided sample images at 100% magnification, should take their meds
