That's what I'm saying. I guess tomorrow (it's already the 23rd over here), there's only gonna be one announcement, and the rest will come at the show.
I can hardly imagine Canon spoiling the suspense revealing all the new stuff tomorrow already.

Long delays from announcement to shipping never made sense to me. Its like taking a person's photo and then they have to wait 2-3 weeks to view them and order? Anyone shooting sports events knows the best way to sell is to do it then and there. Get people while the urge to buy is strongest (WANT is the driver) not later when they've had a chance to think it all over (and NEED then drives a purchase...and people often don't need something they want).
I think the tech companies are learning. Look at Apple. They used to have a long lead time from announcing products to actually shipping them. Now with the new MacPro it went from rumor to announced to in peoples homes in 24 hours. Canon might do the same...stock up and have the new stuff ready to hit the shelves the next day....Show more →
clearly you dont understand the effect that generating a buzz (like we do at FM) has on consumers...
Jus to let you know that, the very famous, and serious french web site: "Chasseur d'image" just posted some kind of "official-unoffical" announcement about the 370D
Hi Marc,
In recent years, Chasseur d'image has become known for re-printing the internet rumors. So this is an echo chamber.
The 5D sells at two and a half times the price of the 30D in Europe, yet claims only the FF sensor as a valid stand-out feature.
You know, I rarely see photographers who actually use the 5D make these types of statements. The files are fantastic, and while I like my 30D and use it when reach or fps is needed, the 5D is on another level.
In my mind, it would be similar to suggesting that the only advantage a Mustang Mach I had over a 4 cylinder base model was more horsepower.

Canon's generally pretty good, but I agree that it would be great if they followed Apple's example here. The longest lag I've seen lately was the 17-55/2.8 which I believe was the 2 months I quoted above...
The second batch of 85 f1.2 IIs took a LONG time to come in. I was in on the original order, but was late to the table. The shop I ordered from didn't get enough in the first batch to fill all orders, and we were told 2-3 weeks for the second batch to arrive. nearly 10 weeks passed before I got that beautiful, heavy light sucker in my happy little hands.
The 24-105 also was hugely in demand when it came out, and took a few weeks to filter down to me, despite being in on the initial order So long, in fact, that mine came from the first batch of the post-fix lenses.
All this talk about hardware... Any chance we might be seeing a new version of DPP? Perhapse the addition of some of Lightrooms organization capabilities would be very nice.
A friend told me a buddy of his just received a Canon Newsletter that had the New 1Ds on it with 20 something Megapixels... My friend isnt a camera buff so he didnt ask his buddy much and doesnt remeber the info in detail and his buddy is on a trip and isnt easy to reach. The files from the 30D are fantastic and while the 5D is superior, its hardly a whole other level. Its also 2.5 times the price. I'd suggest very few would consider the quality premium in line with the financial one.
I'd also suggest that in the world of Mr.Average camera purchaser and their 10x8" prints, that theres absolutely no discernible difference at all.

While I didn't receive a newsletter today, I had a chance to chat with jamesf99's shoeshine guy. He told me that a certain fellow called Sneakyracer had a friend who has a buddy which would receive one. In this newsletter there was the honost to God factual truth about the New 1Ds...
There you have it guys, it's official! No 370D, no new lenses, no DPP, but a new 1Dsx!
....
I've been following this thread since page 10 or so and I just couldn't resist, sorry 'bout that
