The files from the 30D are fantastic and while the 5D is superior, its hardly a whole other level. Its also 2.5 times the price. I'd suggest very few would consider the quality premium in line with the financial one.
I'd also suggest that in the world of Mr.Average camera purchaser and their 10x8" prints, that theres absolutely no discernible difference at all.
Sometimes I wonder which you dislike more - the 5D or Mr. "average" camera purchaser.
I understand that you don't think that the 5D's performance justifies its price, and that's fine. Your money (minus the taxes that government steals first) is yours to spend in the manner that you see fit. You don't see fit to spend it on the 5D at its present price, and that's fine. What I find perplexing, though, is that you continue to degrade the camera and its users at every opportunity.

I find clients tend to prefer the quality premium.
And man, we're only talking about $1500 or so. Yeah, that's a fair bit of change, but in a world where a lot of photographers seem to believe that plopping down $2000 for a 85mm f1.2 II when another 85mm is available at 1/4 the cost; or paying $9000 for a 600mm prime when you can slap a 2x on a 100-400 (and get more reach) for 1/5 the cost- all b/c of the quality premium - is it really that outrageous to pay $1500 more for a top-end quality body? My counter suggestion is that it's not.
Another way to look at the 5D is that you get files from it that are nearly as good as the 1dsII (some claim even cleaner) for less than 1/3 of the price of that body.
What I think is that quite often photographers who want to be in the dSLR world enter it by spending most of their budget on a body, and then don't have enough room left to get good glass. I don't blame anyone for that - the high end glass is almost prohibitive - but then it's hard to really compare sensor quality when the glass is the limiting factor.
But that said, I think the 30D is a great camera, so either way, you're in good shape.
Sorry guys, my friend obviously was totally unware of the huge ammount of speculation and hundred or thousands of posts all over the net on the subject. Like I said he isnt a photo gear head.
Maybe it's already the 24th in China... seems legit, which, if true, means the 50mm f/1.2 L is no longer a fantasy but a reality, it appears our chanting worked. Hoorah for Canon to finally bring such a thing of beauty to us low light and portrait shooters!
And with the 400D at 10MP, looks like Canon will be on the upgrade path for the rest of it's bodies...
I was of course just fooling. I'd be willing to bet this was a controlled leak, I remember two years ago at the last Photokina, Canon Europe had done the same thing, posted a release a day or two in advance and then took it off. I think it's Canon's way of teasing us and causing the rumors to spread like wildfire...
Eddiefmc - you live in a beautiful country, would love to visit someday!
The link is dead as of 11PM PST. Gaaaah! How come we can get satellite images and read the label on a Katucha rocket as it's being launched and we hear about what the CIA and MI6 is up to, but Canon seems to be an informational black hole?
