Oh yes and also a special adapter that will allow any lens ever developed FD, EOS, EF-S, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax etc to be attached to the camera with full metering capabilities, and auto focus even if the lens is a manual focus lens. And the camera also has 45 focus points. Speeds bulb to 1/16000 and ISO range 6-12500.

That should cover most of what people are asking for.

Totally Tongue in cheek,

Since Canon has gotten your attention with all the 'rumorware' cameras and the "Ultima Featherweight IS L EFs" Lens they 'Canon' will not be announcing anything new other than announce continued rebates. Many will be disappointed that they waited for the announcements to buy, after a week or so those that held off buying will finally buy and Canon will lower the old inventories then once they are nearly depleted they will surprise everyone with the single new offering to replace all other cameras and lenses.

You know the multi crop (FF,1.3,1.6 and MF) weather sealed

I won't buy it - I've vowed to avoid rebates like the plague - they'll only claim they've lost the paperwork

Screens, Megapixels and Crop Oh My.

All I personally care about is ISO performance and Dynamic range. The rest make little difference.

I do hope to see a 1D"x" with full frame and high speed crop. A new XT would be fantastic, but i cant see them replacing the 30D and 5D already? (especially since in my opinion no nikons really compete with anything better?) .

Perhaps a "3D" . Being a 1 series built, 30D featured camera? Who knows!

We'll all know soon enough

Second interesting thing: What is going to happen with 5D. We have seen the australian remarks and here in Europe we have been seeing some serious extension of the 300euros rebate on the 5D (it should have ended June 30th and has now been extended thru October 31st in many countries like Netherlands, Germany and others. I wouldn't have a clue on wether we are going to see any major developments on the model, definitely no

The 30D is a holdover model, nothing more, and development costs must have been minimal, especially in light of sales since. Its expendable in the short term to ensure the strongest possible presence in the entry-level segment.

I don't believe the 5D is due an upgrade based on the rebate. The 5D sells at two and a half times the price of the 30D in Europe, yet claims only the FF sensor as a valid stand-out feature. As the vast majority of the market couldn't give a toss about FF, or even know it exists, sales are comparitively poor and its likely the rebate is allowing Canon to simply move inventory quicker. The 5D doesn't need a major upgrade, just a major price cut (to at most 25% above the 30D).

If the new XTi is 1.6crop/10mp, it will be an attractive camera for many people. I would want it as an option to pair with telephotos, assuming it has a considerably higher pixel density than the 1 series.

1.6 crop/10 MP is very attractive for everyone who is looking at the price differences between Canon's 300+ telephotos. You can easily finance an extra 1.6 crop body with the price difference between 300 f2.8 and 500 f4. But the pixel density premium vs. 1 series will disappear as soon as Canon introduces the 22+ MP 1Dxx. That in itself makes the combination of 1.6 crop/10 MP and FF 24 MP a very logical sensor combination for Canon to manufacture - both can have about the same pixel density, as soon as Canon knows how to make them low noise.

Still seems a little too early for Canon to put a higher frame rate into its entry-level dSLR. Maybe when faster throughput is supported and it's entire line of EOS products are getting a significant upgrade in that department, but not until then. In fact, seems to me like the only two ways the XTi has improved framerate is if it's either an insignificant gain (3->3.5fps) or we're looking at a new processing engine and what-not.

Let's not forget there is no DSLR capable of taking maximum advantage of the superior read/write speeds of SanDisk's Extreme III & IV cards yet; and the new entry-level EOS might be the first to take advantage of this feature before Canon making it available on upcoming midrange and high-end models!

I guess I don't know what to think anymore.... There is one thing I think people are forgetting:
In 2 days, something is going to be announced (probably that XTi aka 370D, for which I couldn't care less...) and most probably be available more or less immediately. But Photokina is only in roughly a month. And products announced there always take some time to hit the market. And I think that changes the situation. Since Canon's cycles have shorten to about 18 month, 3 or 4 month of delay makes a big difference. For those cycles always refer to markting and not announcement.
So I fear (or hope ) the rumour mill will grind for another 5 weeks...

There's a difference between a software company making an announcement at Photokina and a company as huge as Canon making an announcement. There's no reason to believe that the delay in shipping on any item Canon introduces there will take longer than 2 months, max.

Canon doesn't just magically provide higher frame rates because Sandisk or Lexar decided to make a faster card. It decides to do that when it develops a way to process and move that information fast enough, and when that technology has proven to be [reasonably] reliable. Besides, there is clearly still a market for 3fps cameras. If Canon really has innovated the processing and transport of data, that's great. But if it ups its entry-level dSLR to 5fps, then every camera in its lineup would have to be at least 5fps (meaning a Digic III since the 1D series already seems to be pushing the Digic II to its limits). If 5fps happens to the Rebel, then perhaps the introduction of a lower entry-level dSLR?

Long delays from announcement to shipping never made sense to me. Its like taking a person's photo and then they have to wait 2-3 weeks to view them and order? Anyone shooting sports events knows the best way to sell is to do it then and there. Get people while the urge to buy is strongest (WANT is the driver) not later when they've had a chance to think it all over (and NEED then drives a purchase...and people often don't need something they want).

I think the tech companies are learning. Look at Apple. They used to have a long lead time from announcing products to actually shipping them. Now with the new MacPro it went from rumor to announced to in peoples homes in 24 hours. Canon might do the same...stock up and have the new stuff ready to hit the shelves the next day.

Canon's generally pretty good, but I agree that it would be great if they followed Apple's example here. The longest lag I've seen lately was the 17-55/2.8 which I believe was the 2 months I quoted above...

OTOH, with very high-end portraiture, it's often advisable to take more time, often to do preliminary retouching of even the previews (proofs), creation of a slideshow, and especially scheduling the viewing session at a convenient time. People who are accustomed to spending large amounts of money expect quality to take time.

But trade shows happen on a fixed schedule and holidays happen on a fixed schedule. Announcements must coincide with schedules the manufacturers don't control.

I'm sure they nearly always intend to get product on shelves at the same time--certainly the accountants want to see the R&D investment start earning returns as soon as possible. But when trying to get a new product through the door, stuff happens to bollix a production schedule.

It's just been released -- it's called the Leica M8 digital rangefinder, and it will only cost you $5000.

The problem is that with an APS-C sensor you'd need to position the lens farther from the sensor to cast a big enough image circle. You'd also need larger focal lengths and more glass to cover the equivalent field of view. So a camera like this would not be nearly as compact as the 8x15mm sensor P+S collection on the market, and between the sensor, glass, and body size the price would begin to approach that of entry level DSLRs.

Also, don't forget the shutter delay, which will pretty much obviate such a camera being useful for weddings, sports, etc. Unless you turn off the live LCD preview, that is, which would require closely calibrating the viewfinder to the lens -- i.e. a true rangefinder.

Hi,

Jus to let you know that, the very famous, and serious french web site: "Chasseur d'image" just posted some kind of "official-unoffical" announcement about the 370D
For those (like me who speek french, it's here : http://www2.photim.com/info/Sommaire.phpThey're just talking about rumors on web sites, but for sure, they usally don't do that. Very strange.

Maybe just maybe after all the work on a new 30D with a 10.1 meg sensor, they could not get the noise lvls they wanted and went with the old 8.2 but still used the 10.1 in the new 370 to match the D80. If you look at in that light it sorta makes sinse.
