With all this rife speculation, and close to 7 days before the supposed announcement date there are curiously few "leaked" photographs and spec sheets on the new introductions..

Have the camera manufactureres finally stopped playing with supposed "leaks"

Pity, it was kinda fun to get the scoop before the announcement date..

Or perhaps there just isn't that much to write about?

My calendar says that just the 350D needs replacement. And if it follows the 1D Mk II => 1D Mk IIn and the 20D => 30D replacements, - what could possibly be leaked?

I think Canon is loosing a bit here and now, - but I am confident that they'll be releasing a very nice 1Ds replacement in feb. Unfortunately there is no way I'll be able to pay for it, - but in aug. next year, - the 30D will be replaced, - and I'll get a new cam.

Actually I even think it makes a lot of sense and is very nice to the Canon owners. In this way we can get upgrades whish is actually worth it (the 1D Mk IIn and 30D and I guess 350D replacements are not the ones you want). You buy every other time, - so you only need to buy a new cam every 3 year.

Only problem is to the new-comers, - and I guess Nikon and Sony did surprise Canon here.

All of this is obviously pure speculation, - but let's see. I am still 'dreaming' about a 3000D that I wouldn't be buying though (I wrote the reasons for this earlier in this thread).

P.S. I have a 20D and I still thinks it makes just gorgeous pictures! And a 40D with 12 megapixels and no other changes compared to 30D would most likely not make me change.
Iso6400, 16 bit DR and perhaps even a in-body IS on the other hand is what I am dreaming about. Of course I wouldn't mind it have more megapixels too, - and I think it will. It's just not what I 'need', but still nice!
Until some of that comes true my 20D is just perfect.

I think that about all we are going to get at Photokina is an upgrade of the 350D, to the 370D.
That is good and bad, as most here were hoping for something more exciting.
But the good news is that the reason may be that Canon want to make decisive changes, and they are not quite ready to do so, so the major changes will come at PMA.
They have said, I believe, although I am darned if I can find the reference now, that 2007 will be the year of increased DR.
They have also said that they hope to do ISO6400 shortly:
http://www.dslrphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/Future_DSLRs.pdf
Chuck Westfall also commented that they see increased bits as useful for increased DR, and we have the old interview from two years ago indicating that the 1 series is to be merged.
So I expect new cameras in the new year, which will be truly ground-breaking - but the lack of leaks on anything other than the 370D seems to indicate to me that nothing much is likely until next year.
Regards,
DaveMart

It's very interesting to see what people want's here!

I would like to nail one of the wished down though.

As far as I know there is absolutely no way anyone could make a FF in-body IS without changing the lense-system. The in-body IS need a 'bigger picture' that it's actually using, - because it should be able to 'move around'.

So you'll have to choose - FF or inbody IS

And that could be a reason for Canon not to make it!
If a xxxD or xxD user got used to it and really liked it, - what pro Canon could he step up too?

Also, - if I am right (and I am pretty sure that I am) you can't use inbody IS with the EF-S lenses.

Perhaps it would be a wise decision for Nikon to do inbody IS. That way Canon would have a very hard time to follow them, - and Nikon would surely a good reason to choose their brand before Canon.

Canon has introduced a new flagship 1Ds at the previous 2 photokinas (2002-1ds, 2004-1ds II) so I would bet good money on a New 1Ds with over 20mp. Price? The same as the previous 1Ds's since they have no competition from any other DSLR. Just like what happened with the previous 2 1Ds's they basically had double the MP of Nikon's top offering when they were introduced.

Cant say any more but some select pro photogs have been field testing the New 1Ds for a few months. They basically are "disguised" as 1D mark II N's

Naturally heavy duty NDA's apply with severe penalties.

also:

A new Digi Rebel? very likely

New Lenses? Nothing major but a few will be introduced.

Not so. Minolta AS work perfectly well with APS lenses. Therefore, FF sensor will work with no problems with FF lenses. The actual movement is very small (IIRC ~1mm).

Well, all this talk of new camera bodies is very interesting. But, in my case I am not looking for a new camera, the 20D I have is better than any camera I have ever owned (going back to my old pentax k-mount) and I don't have any intention of spending $3000 - $5000 on a new one. I am sure some of you are looking for the latest/greatest and canon wants to try to keep you happy, but honestly they already have the best suite of bodies of any manufacturer. The D80 and alpha compete with the midrange (30D), but nobody can touch canon's FF/pro series.

What I am in the market for is good wide glass and an affordable supertele like the 400L but with IS - at a reasonable (<$1500) price.

WIth Nikon's D80 announcement offering a 10MP dSLR for under $1000 certainly begs the question of whether or not Canon had anticipated this move. My guess is they did, but the question remains whether or not they'll react this year.

We have to realize the mind of the consumer, for the vast majority of people, they don't really understand megapixels and sensor size, etc. what they do understand is "bigger is better", just look at the example from the digicams, most consumers never print above 5x7 and yet they're going out and purchasing 6-8MP digicams, way overkill. I'm sure Canon has a 10MP sensor for the 1.6x/APS-C bodies in the works, the question is whether they'll relase it this year or not. It would really be interesting if Canon decided not to release a competitor to the D80 and maybe just drop prices on the 30D or something like that. They certainly have the money to test the market, will people really choose to purchase the Nikon simply because it has more megapixels? Maybe, maybe not...

Canon (so far) seems perfectly content with 8MP for the majority of it's camera's (20D, 30D, 1D Mark II(n)) and I would certainly agree. I'm an event/portrait shooter mostly and I am still blown away at the detail I can get from my 8MP bodies, I can easily go 16x24 print size but have no need to. So if they introduce a 10-12MP replacement for any of these bodies I may be interested but I'm certainly not going to run out and buy the very first one, what I'm looking for is better features as many of you have mentioned. Canon already has the best high ISO performance of any dSLR out there, so if they bumped up to 6400 and were able to maintain the performance at that ISO of the current 3200, I would be very interested. And if they increased dynamic range and added a 3" VGA LCD (like the Samsung) it would make it more tempting alltogether.

Since I'm perfectly happy with my current dSLR's I'm more interesting in new lens releases because this is an area that Nikon has been dominating lately.

So do we have a final roomer of what's to come yet?

*sigh* Jupiter Images said my stuff's good but they won't accept anything taken with less then a 12mp body. Like I got that kind of money...anything in my budget in the future?

Got a hint from a generally well informed friend in camerabusiness to this pic. Don't know anything about specs, but I like the looks:

This is the same image that appeared here on the 1st August. http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/Canon_1DS_MkIII.html

It does look good, but I think it is fake because of the lens.

However I do lust after an eye control FF camera in that shape body.

Finally I've got some info albeit not very promising.
My Canon contact person told me "not to lose any sleep over Photokina". Sounds like another one of those "ibis redibis numquam peribis" tease-bits, however, in reference to my question it does contain definitive info of value.
Next !

The 3D picture is pretty old..... it was banded around in Jan/Feb as a hoax for what was being released in Feb. Forget it.

Is it? I was a bit surprised, as to me it seems to be a clearly different picture from what seems to be the same camera as shown in that other picture. Shadows, color and some details are different to my eyes. Also I trust my friend who is in the camera retail business and though he did not want to tell anything about details, I believe he gave me this info because he knows more but can't disclose information obviously because he has business interest in keeping a good relationship with his Canon distributor I guess. To me it seems to be credible information. Call me gullible, but I'll wait patiently until the Photokina to see wether this was a really good tip from my friend or wether it was a link to a fake.

Seeing as the bottom portion on the 3D picture is from a Nikon D2 series camera, I'd say the picture is a fake.....

I fell for the picture of the fake 3D a few months ago. It seemed to be very close to what had been rumored and found that image surfing. Let's hope someone at Canon sees it and says "Hey, ya know... it could be great!"

Dick - your friend is full of shit. If that picture turns out to be the real camera released soon then you can have my 300 f/2.8.

As if Canon would release a 40mm f/1.2...please.
