p.1 #1 · June 2026 LRC/PS updates ... faster Denoise measurements for Mac M with Neural Engine

Edit, 6/18 : See post # 8 for data showing improvements on M1 Max MBP. Please add your data if possible

Several places posted yesterday that LRC and PS have new updates (EDIT .. some time this week).  Adobe is showing nothing YET though.

Then I saw this snippet on a tech site;
"It also introduces an improved Denoise tool made specifically for Apple silicon Macs, which makes performance up to 3.6 times faster. It also offers a slider that lets users adjust the noise level with no extra processing required."
https://9to5mac.com/2026/06/15/adobe-rolls-out-major-creative-cloud-updates-for-lightroom-premiere-photoshop-more/

DPR has an article though no mention of the Denoise speed.
https://www.dpreview.com/news/9872416768/adobe-lightroom-photoshop-update-june-2026

The slider has been around for the last 1-2 revs. I hope that it's due in a day or so.  I was about to buy a new M5 Macbook Pro but if Denoise is 3.6 x faster I'm not sure I will.

EDITED for clarity. June update due this week some time (I initially read as already released)

I've seen the same thing. I saw a video from an Adobe employee this morning on YT "LR finally gets a feature we've all been asking for" but I didn't watch it. Made me check for updates, though :-)

Might be something new soon.

7.32 mins
Count of ~10 (secs) to Denoise a 48MP NEF. Pretty nice! Finally using the Neural Engine ...

This all sounds good. I’ve been using AI Denoise for some time now, at it is great tool. (It has saved some old high ISO shots that I had write off.)

The slider to adjust the amount of AI Denoise has been there for a while and is a very useful variable. (I would rarely use it at the maximum level.)

But speeding up the process on Mac will help me a lot, especially with 50MP files. (I’m traveling for a few more days and relying on my iPad Pro for light processing, but I’ll be looking for this when I get back to my Mac in a few days!)

LRc Windows just became its 15.4 update. Same for Camera Raw, PS and PS Beta.

Adobe are saying between 2.4 and 3.6 x improvement in Denoise with the new Mac version of Lightroom Classic 15.4

I measured the new denoise time in Lightroom Classic on my M1 Macbook Pro. If anyone want to do this as well I will create a table then also graph out results for time against, probably GPU cores and Neural Engine Cores. Maybe M chip type. We’ll see what is the driver

If you want to add some data I need you to use this file that was used for the table created when denoise was 1st released. I also need the info below from your Mac
Download link
https://drive.google.com/file/d/15UAKmx9IA1k2Zt877ShHeUewCcHquyhu/view

Mac info requested
M chip version (M1, M2, M3 etc)
M chip type (Base M, M Pro, M Max, M Ultra)
CPU cores
GPU cores
Neural Engine Cores
DRAM (this, I believe, only affects performance if it’s pretty small, eg 8GB so useful to know for screening)

My own data to start
M1 Max, 10 CPU, 24 GPU, 16 NE, 64 GB
20 seconds (34 seconds before upgrade)
So definitely better but nowhere near what I'd hoped

Good point and I'll do that and post results. In the past it's made little difference (+/- a second) as times are long enough. If I had a computer that ran deoise in 5 seconds or so I'd have to do it.

On my Mac Studio M4 Max I get;

A7R5 = 11 sec
A1 II = 9.9 sec
A7R6 = 13.5 sec

But I'm still waiting for the June update on DxO Pureraw for the A7R6....probably slower but cleaner and the file size compression would be incredible...A7R5 Raw = 82mb, after Pureraw, 28mb DNG

My M1 Max MBP went from ~29s to 15s now using the neural engine. This is on full frame Sony A1II 50MP Compressed RAW (Lossy version). That plus the recent addition of background processing means I won't have to update this computer for another few years!!!

More information about my computer:
M1 Max MBP
24 GPU
32GB RAM
2TB HD

New data added. Looks like it's still correlating to GPU cores (CPU cores well but I hazard a guess that it's still mainly in the GPU)

Nice!

Any chance you can try this on the file in the download link (60MP Sony) and add your MBP details?
