It's no secret that Hasselblad often gives gear to reviewers and influencers to review (and keep), which can make reviews feel less objective. This one still leans toward cheerleading, but it does come across as more genuine. At least it admits the AF is decent but not great for subject tracking, which shows some honesty.

A negative comment is not a sign of honesty, and a positive comment is not a sign of dishonesty.

I get what you're saying, but you know what I meant. In this case, it shows some honesty because the reviewer pointed out a flaw and even included out-of-focus shots instead of just showing the keepers.

I have an issue fully believing someone given a camera & lens. I don’t believe this reflects poorly on the reviewer, but who doesn’t want a free X3D in the future? So, emphasis might change and defects somewhat downplayed. Also, they all run around with a wine bottle of a lens, which doesn’t reflect everyone’s interest…not mine at least.
None of this is important because a number of contributors on this thread have, or will shortly have the camera and we each have our favorite lenses and subject matter, so a new review thread is in order.
I recognize that the new zoom is just what some need. I must admit that my zoom days are in the past and I’m really addicted to the clutch manual focus of the v lenses, so the 38v is really the only small(ish) lens in my kit, so I’m adapting to the beer bottle 25v & 90v..both really great lenses wide open.

Well, V isn’t an influencer and The Verge is a proper tech journalism outlet. I found most of the X2D II “reviews,” to not be worthwhile due to the behavior you’re alluding to though.

How kind of Hasselblad to turbo charge the patina process via their material choices. “The aged look can be yours on Day 1, just apply the camera strap to your Hasselblad X2D II!”
In all seriousness, I am curious about their anodization process, specifically changes between X1D and X2D bodies.

Just chasing the Leica customers that have become accustomed to paint falling off their brand new cameras.

No, wildly, I mean exactly what I say. I have seen TOP PLATES quite scratched up in review videos after just a few weeks of use.
This (LUGS) is an additional apparent scratch-prone point on the new model.
I believe it was in Bobbi Tonelli's review of the X2D II where he mentioned the seemingly very poor anodized surface on previous Hasselblad XD bodies being a major issue with scratches after very little use. He said that the surface on the new X2D II seems to be better but only time will tell.

You see it all the time in used listings. Most X2D units suffer from really banged up LCD frames, bottom plates, and corners. I'm not thinking they improved this much if at all with this new unit.
I really like Bobby but he hasn't had the camera long enough to form a valid long term take on the paint, just like every other reviewer.

My well-used X2D has some scratches on the strap lugs, which are not noticeable in normal light (I did not know there were scratches until I looked closely), and no scratches elsewhere.

I went back to a few videos to look at their lugs...here is PetaPixel's copy, not a great look:
Interesting, I guess I will see how that goes soon enough, mine is out for delivery.
For what it is worth, I think my X2D evened out in patina on the lugs to where I did not even notice the difference once worn in. I always took the strap off when storing it and every time I did tripod based work, so those points saw a heck of a lot of action.

I've taken the strap off quite a few times on my X2D, but certainly haven't done it enough for an even patina, and don't see anything remotely like the Reddit and PetaPixel examples...just something to be mindful of as thousands of dollars are being spent on luxury products.

The Reddit one is pretty bad. If I were a hobby shooter and saw that after plunking down that kind of coin, I would be in serious WTF mode. I don't abuse my cameras, but I do use them a ton, sometimes they bump into each other and after a few years, it shows.
