Hasselblad X2D II 100C Announced

Hasselblad has unveiled the X2D II 100C, their new flagship medium format mirrorless. It builds on the X2D with faster AF, stronger IBIS, more flexible color, and a refined body design.

Key highlights:

• 100MP BSI CMOS sensor (43.8 × 32.9mm), 16-bit color
• Improved 15.3 stops DR, ISO 50–25600
• End-to-end HDR with new HNCS HDR color science
• Phase-detect AF with 425 points + AF-C mode (first for Hasselblad), subject detection (human, vehicles, cats, dogs), and LiDAR assist
• 5-axis IBIS rated up to 10 stops
• Added joystick for enhanced control
• Leaf-shutter XCD lenses up to 1/4000s sync, or 1/6000s with electronic shutter
• Faster continuous shooting at 3 fps
• Refined body: lighter (7.5% reduction), new graphite finish, redesigned grip
• Tilting OLED touchscreen, 5.76m-dot EVF, top status LCD
• LCD size: 3.6", 2,360,000 Dot (with a 75% increase in brightness)
• 1TB internal SSD + CFexpress Type B slot
• USB-C 3.1 Gen2 with fast charging and transfers
• 466-shot battery life
• Phocus Mobile 2 for HDR raw editing and wireless workflow

In summary, the X2D II 100C builds on its predecessor with major improvements in autofocus, image stabilization, display brightness, and overall ergonomics, while keeping the core features that made the original X2D 100C a standout in the medium format segment. On top of that, it comes at a lower price than the previous model, which sold for $7,995.

It's not a cheap camera, but in my opinion it's very well priced compared to other brands selling full-frame cameras these days. It also feels like a solid upgrade over the previous version.

I didn’t see an upgrade for me when I read the rumors but now that spec’s are official and I add up all the improvements I decided to order the new version after all.

At somewhat regular intervals over the past 15-20 years I have reported to my wife the current price of MF digital, noting its steady descent and reinforcing the fact that it would one day be affordable enough to buy.

This was a sort of desensitization regime on my part to make the eventual purchase seem like the only natural outcome. Thankfully the descent continues, and I'm happy to report that it crossed my personal threshold last year.

I look forward to the X3D (as a very satisfied X2D owner)!

…and the great thing for users without deep pockets is that the original X2D will become more affordable!

I still find it very hard to even consider Hasselblad after I picked up a GFX100s for $2500. Same sensor and everything I need for the kind of uses I have for medium format.

Which two lenses would you consider essential for this system...offering both good low-light performance and a versatile focal range?

I'm on the other side, more frustrated about the things that they didn't fix. At least the price is cheaper, somehow, in an insane tariff situation, so for first time buyers, this is the OBVIOUS choice over the first gen.

I still think Hassy is struggling to make the case of why you should buy them over Fuji, the lens prices are bonkers and the IQ isn't necessarily worth the squeeze for the price difference, especially the smaller V lenses that need so much software correction.

Putting them side by side (both latest models and brand new), the Hasselblad X2D II 100C is $1,900 more expensive than the Fujifilm GFX 100S II. Overall, they are similar in size and weight, but the GFX100S II is 12 mm thicker than the X2D II 100C, while their width and height are roughly the same.

If I was in the market, it would be the V 25 and 55 if low light with relative lens speed was a consideration (I typically only shoot wider). Not sure if it really matters given the exceptional IS now - so it might be the 20-35 zoom with the V 90. Others have mentioned pairing the V 38 + 90mm (Bobby Tonelli in his video)….now that I think of it, 20-35 zoom + V 90 would be a very compelling kit!

But still less than the GFX 100 II, which after the latest price increase is even more DOA than it already was.

The GFX feels notably smaller in hand than the X2D for reasons I can't quite articulate, but that gain is immediately lost when you bolt an obese GF lens to it.

The price of the lenses is where Hasselblad really "gets you" compared to the Fuji GF system. For instance, the Hassy 20-35 is pushing $6k vs less than 3K for the comparable GF 20-35. The Hasselblad V 90 2.5 is $4300 vs the Fuji GF 110 F2! at just over 3k now.

Don't discount the large number of used GF lenses for way cheaper that are around too...much harder to find used Hassy glass.

I wish they offered compressed RAW file sizes like some of the full frame cameras. Otherwise I really like the update and a lower price is always welcomed.

The veiny texture was a ballsy choice.

The GF lenses are bulky as hell! I'm not sure they actually weigh that much more, though it's difficult to find exact comparisons with regard to FL. For instance, the directly comparable 20-35 zooms weigh roughly the same (the GF weighs a bit less actually). Like you have mentioned before though, unless you are adapting a lens to the GF

I think I agree with Bobby...having a full-frame equivalent pair of 30mm f/2 and 70mm f/2 sounds just right. It's an extra $8K, but for many photographers, that’s all they'd need. For landscape work, though, an ultra-wide zoom might also be useful. (XCD 20-35mm f/3.2-4.5 E?)
