A revamp of the 80 would be interesting, but I'd personally rather see something pushing the speed envelope at a more normal focal range like 65mm. These cameras are probably being used for documentary or reportage style photography more than fashion and portraiture, despite hasselblads roots.

Most docu/reportage folks I know just use 2x A9iii (or another high burst silent shutter system), while most of the X2D owners I knew were using for commercial, fashion, and portraiture with occasional BTS production set stuff. Not sure if that's going to change much with the X2D2 but in the future I can see it happening. I am waiting for a 65 and 80mm remake, for the 80 I hope they keep the 77mm filter.
The 20-35e is glued to my X2D cause there are no real benefits for my usage cases with the D2. The 35-100 is perfect with the D2. I did use the 28, 38, 55, 90 but once I factored in total lens volume and weight, along with convenience the zooms just made sense. I still like the 75p the best, cause it gives me about a 1:1 true to life scale thru the EVF.
Historically, I am strictly prime user, but the recent Sony GM f2 zooms and the Hasselblad E series finally converted me.

I see a lot more comments on the 28 vs 25, why is that? Is it size, focal length preference or cost? From what I’ve read the 28 needs to be stopped down quite a bit to match performance of the 25, but its obviously in a much smaller package

Traveling with 35mm-100mm makes lots of sense since it’s lighter than the primes needed to take its place. What doesn’t make sense to me is walking 10 miles per day with a long heavy lens hanging off the body. I’ll stay with smaller/lighter primes and undoubtedly will miss shots that would be easily captured with the zoom.

This is why lenses like the full frame 24-120 stay winning for longer excursions. The Hassy zoom is nearly 50% heavier and still missing around 55mm worth of range.

I meant style rather than professional focus, assuming the X owner pool was probably dominated by amateurs at this point, but I may very well be mistaken about that.

Outside of an updated tele prime or zoom, faster portrait lenses are what I’d be interested in. Use that DJI money to bring miniaturization innovation to MF AF lens design.

I think the timing of their releases had a lot to do with it. The 28P came out almost a year earlier. By the time the 25V came out (and was available) one had to ask if the slightly wider FL was worth twice the price, double the length and more than double the weight? The 28P is nicely styled too.
That said, I didn’t get a Hasselblad till May of ‘24 so I had a choice and went with the 25V. The extra 1 1/3 stops were important to me. The AF/MF clutch another big factor. Obviously the IQ especially in XPAN mode is important. The 25V sets up easily for manual zone focusing. Even wide open at f2.5 the depth of field is something like 7-8 feet to infinity. As far as the price…like many others I sold off enough older gear to make the 25V price bearable.

At the wider end, I'm holding out for a used 20-35 to go with my 38v and 55v. I thought about the 25v but after going with the 23 in the GFX system, I regretted not going for the zoom. The 35-100 is very appealing for travel but the size (like Fuji GFX lenses) is a bit off putting for travel.

Does anyone else wish there were a smart Leica S adapter for the system? Leica only made six CS lenses (30/2.8, 35/2,5, 45/2.8, 70/2.5, APO-Mac 120/2.5. and APO 180/3.5) but they're all lust-worthy lenses. Someone's missing an opportunity to separate this fool from his money.

Agree, could be good, but most manufacturers of adapters tend to focus on what's currently for sale and those old S lenses are at least 6-8 years old.

The 25V is better but not massively better. Maybe a stop. I use the 28P more because I tend to shoot less with ultra wides than I used to. Generally, beyond 28mm equiv.. I'll stitch. But sometimes having a 22mm equiv.. in the bag is really handy. And the 28P is a very very good lens.

thanks, and I think the 28 being slightly longer suits my style more as well. Comparisons I see show clear superiority in the 25V at wider apertures in sharpness/CA/flare resistance, but that isn't how I would be using this lens. Would 95% of the time be stopped down, where differences should be minimal.

I feel the same way except that I like shooting at night whether cityscapes or milky way. So I I feel like I need the 25v

I have the X2D2 + 55v…sold off all my other gear to simplify my camera life, which included the 100s, SL3, XT5, Z7 and bunch of lenses…I ordered the 35-100, but yet to receive, plan to use mainly as a landscape lens. For travel, the 28p + 55v would pair nicely I think or maybe 28p + 75p, and will need to address the tele end of things, maybe the 135+1.7, but pricey won’t use that often…anyone adapting H lenses?
I am missing my SL3 and sigma contemporary primes….

For some reason I am holding onto my SL3, even though I should do as you and concentrate on one main system, but I keep trying to see if adapting V and FE glass on the SL3 will yield something unexpectedly good. Your missing the SL3 is a statement.
Yes X2Dii adapting an option for longer glass (or for portraiture then shorter glass with older characteristics), but not H (the 300?) for me as I have 250, 350 Supaerachromatic and the APO 1.7X for the 350.

I am missing my SL3 and sigma contemporary primes….
Early on I adapted a lot of H lenses as there wasn’t much choice early on. I still have the 100, 150, 200 and the 35-90. I really liked the 150. The 200mm was OK but not spectacular and neither is as optically good as the 135 which is just brilliant, even with the 1.7x. Also the XH adaptor has become harder to find. The 100 is a portrait lens for sure. The zoom is really big and I liked it but basically stopped using it when the 35-75 arrived. All my H lenses supported AF.
I still have my SL3’s and I agree the Sigma contemporary primes are just fantastic. But I don’t really use it much at all. I love the camera and when longer lenses are needed it’s great except the lack of EFCS REALLY annoys me. Sometimes my S1Rii pulls more detail (it has EFCS) from my L tele primes. And I now use Sony A1ii’s for long lenses. I picked up the 28-70 f2 and 50-150 f2 for it and they are sensational on an A7R5. I’ve learnt the menus. They’re awful but I know them. I also got the Sigmas for the Sony as well but they see little to no use currently. I thought maybe they’d be used on the A7CR but that camera just doesn’t inspire me, despite how good the files are. I still almost always choose the X2D(2) over it as well.
For my use case, as I collected all the XCD primes my use case for the SL3 and Sigma’s has basically collapsed. When I go to take the SL3 out, I always end up with the Hasselblad. What has happened is I use my M’s and Q3’s a bit more.
The other thing I found, apart from the SL3 is that all these little cameras need attachments to be comfortable. A thumbie for the M or a grip for the Q3 and A7CR. Basically to make them work with anything longer than a 50 they need help and then they’re simply no smaller, functionally, than the Hasselblad. The new V/P lenses are fatter but not that much longer or heavier than their 24x36mm counterparts and 9 times out of 10 I prefer 4:2 over 3:2.
So I absolutely get you miss the SL3. I’m just wondering, would you use it if you were to re-acquire it, or is a 28 and 90mm XCD lens a better choice, even though you’re getting the zoom? Still having both I don’t know that you’d not regret repurchasing a SL3.
