A good lens is a very abstract term. Landscape photography requires sharpness across the entire frame, and here I prefer the 45p and 65 over the 38v and 55v. And for artistic photography, the 80 and 65 were excellent. I like the 80/1.9 almost as much as the Noctilux 50, but the Noctilux is easier to focus in the dark with a rangefinder. 38v and 55v - the best for tavel

It would be shame to take this trip and not take the X2Dii with a V lens or two. I just took a trip for nearly 4 weeks and decided if I want to get to one with the X2Dii I was taking it and all my lenses, whether flying or not. Your trip sounds like a road trip due to taking lots of film. Come on, I bet you got some extra room for that X2Dii.
Well, my wife convinced me to change my plans, perhaps because now I’ll be gone for a longer period of time. I won’t be renting a car and flying back, but taking my pickup truck, which is equipped for off-road and has lockable drawers in the back, which allows me to take anything/everything. It also allows for a different route back and short of a heavy snow storm, the truck should work out just fine. I was also going to take my M11 Monochrom with a very small Voigtlander 35mm f/3.5 Color-Skopar and the collapsible Leica 90mm Macro Elmar. A very compact duo. I’ll give some thought to taking the X2Dii and using it exclusively on my way back. I say this because my film lab is located at the end of my road trip, so I’ll drop off all film before heading back.
BTW.. the images that you posted were impressive. I forwarded the link to my friend that I’ll be paired with for the trip. A bit of inspiration.

......I did however notice a difference in optical quality from launch until this year on the 55V as due to health reasons I was buying and selling quite a number of 55V copies and this year the 2 copies I purchased new were quieter, sharper across the frame and had less vignetting. .......
I have only had 2 copies of the 55V but the one that came with the Earth Explorer kit was also better than the one I got at launch. Not massively, but noticeably. Maybe you are correct and newer lenses have been tweaked with better tolerances?
Not scientific but interesting you have had the same thing with the later manufacturing date.

Heavily invested in Leica M system, but getting the bug to start playing with either an X2D or X2D II. Would primarily be for landscape, but the images I see at slower speeds (1/2 second or so) handheld at night make it really interesting for walking around town. What is this groups thoughts on a X2D vs X2D II? Trying to decide if the II is worth it. I don’t care about AF speed, but the IBIS improvements are a huge nod towards the II for me. Not sure if the II has anything else going for it for my needs over the older model.

AF and IBIS have been improved, plus the joystick if that is important to you.

The difference in IBIS spec ... sounds good on paper, but the fine print suggests that it is with the 28mm (iirc) and in the center of the image (or something like that). That's not to take away from an improvement, but it may not be as radical an improvement as first blush might suggest.
That said, I'm pleased with the IBIS performance of my X2D with the 45P. I've had success with 1+ sec exposures. Technique included using with neck strap and maintaining tension of the neck strap. What difference would X2D II vs. X2D make ... I can't speak to that, but I'm not compelled to get the X2D II for the IBIS difference.
As to the AF, I'm presently limited to just my 45P (and glass matters wrt AF), so until I get additional glass that is well suited toward AF performance, I don't know where I sit on the AF aspect of the X2D.
Here's a crop from 0.5 sec using ISO 64 and f/6.8 (modest PP edits).

For X2D II 100C that is 10 stop in center, 8 stop in corners, using XCD 120 Macro.
The new CIPA standard now also specifies corner performance (always weaker, especially with wide lenses) and the center performance is now typically equal or weaker than with the old CIPA standard.

The improvements in AF and IBIS are there. They might be significant to some people and not to others.
There is also Continuous Autofocus now if you want/need that in a Hasselblad. I personally don't.
The 55g of less weight is definitely appreciated by me but perhaps not essential to most users either.
The rear screen has been improved and you have HDR Capture now. Does not do much for me personally.
The X2D is an excellent camera. Unless you perhaps feel very strongly about needing a joystick the X2Dii will provide incremental improvements and probably only you can decide whether they are worthwhile to you or not.

I don't have the X2D to compare but the new X2D II is so good. I was expecting a slow clumsy experience with AF but it is a joy to use. Fast, snappy, accurate as any other full frame modern AF camera with the exception of fast action sports and wildlife. However, tracking works really well. But the camera is not intended for those subjects. The joystick is great, the menus are great. I'm coming from the Fuji GFX system and I intend to sell all that equipment for the Hasselblad system.
Gloomy morning today.
