That is obviously my next decision….lenses. That 35-100 sure looks amazing. I’ve been nothing but a prime shooter for the past 12 years or so, that one has me tempted

I was intending to go the zoom route but bought the X2D II with the 55v. Now I have the 38v on the way. I might still get both zooms. The primes are nice and compact and I’m liking the overall package so I might just do primes.

Heavily invested in Leica M system, but getting the bug to start playing with either an X2D or X2D II. Would primarily be for landscape, but the images I see at slower speeds (1/2 second or so) handheld at night make it really interesting for walking around town. What is this groups thoughts on a X2D vs X2D II? Trying to decide if the II is worth it. I don’t care about AF speed, but the IBIS improvements are a huge nod towards the II for me. Not sure if the II has anything else going for it for my

The differences in the mk2 are there but they're subtle, individually. You can still get silly handheld speeds with the X2D. The X2D2 is a stop or so better. The flip screen now clears the EVF for better viewing. But the older one is workable. Joystick is nice but the touchpad function works fine.

Once you add up all the little changes I do think it's worth the upgrade. I am keeping my Earth Explorer for my second body as it's not that far behind. I can rock the 20-35 on the X2D Earth Explorer (no AFC on the 20-35) and 35-100 on the X2D2.

The X2D2 is now a powerful and versatile camera. A sports camera it 'aint but its shooting envelope is wider than many think. If you go down the HB pathway it's likely you will use it for more than landscapes and night shooting. So generally, I'd get a new one. Also the X2D/X2D2 has the best long exposure implementation and results of any camera on the market. Don't throw away that tripod too soon.

The files are like Crack. You don't need them but you'll want them.

I haven't had a chance to put my X2D on sticks, yet. But, i do recall diggin' the files with the X1D II. Looking forward to having a flip screen this go round. Being tall, I don't like raising the center column on my tripod (vibes) for long exposures. The flip screen should be a bonus ... that, and 100MP probably won't hurt, either.

For me (wrt IBIS), I figure the one stop (-ish) difference between the X2D vs. X2D II means a one stop ISO difference. Which (imo) is too trivial to be concerned by in today's realm of ISO performance and NR (if needed). And, then if it is work that does warrant more than two stops difference from what is hand holdable (i.e. more than two seconds or more than two stops ISO bump) ... yeah, then I'm probably gonna want to be in sticks to go even longer for that kind of work.

My salient point being the difference between walkabout vs. sticks and where folks draw the line. With walkabout, don't forget that excellent ISO remains a friend, as well, even if you tap out at the end of the IBIS handholding range. Everything on a walkabout doesn't have to be a 16 bit, ISO 64 or 50, every time.

Hand holding 14 bit, ISO 800 is still pretty dang clean. While the X2D II might get you into ISO 400 (or even ISO 200) territory instead, with a slightly longer IBIS capability. Just depends on how folks "think it through" for their actual use case / wants / needs. For those who the X2D II might be too much of a $$$ stretch ... (imo) the X2D ain't too shabby.

YMMV

Remember that to use the improved stabilization, you need to periodically refresh Mark 2's location data in the iPhone app.

If you use an Apple device. Hasselblad should be ashamed that after 8 years there's no Android version.

Yes, it is a pity that Android owners cannot benefit from full stabilization potential of Mark II.

Seriously. Especially now that a useful camera feature literally depends upon it. Even if they can't or don't want to implement the full app on Android, they should at least support the easy stuff, like transmitting current GPS location.

That 0.6s shutter speed gave a nice sense of movement to the water.

I see folks are forgoing or have forgot mentioning the return of the ability to use a corded remote. To me, this was by far a most puzzling omission from the X2D. One can only get so far using the self timer approach as in trying to time either peak action or breaks in wind it can get tedious at best.

All this said, I can see getting a good used X2D body as a second, the prices are dropping like a rock, MPB always has like 80+ of them in stock.

Tried the 35-100 today. It’s a little too…girthy for me. It would feel right at home on the GFX. The X2D II felt so perfect with the primes. I wonder if they’ll launch a new telephoto prime. An update to the 135 or something longer.

Interesting. I'm new to the system and currently have two primes. I'm back ordered on the 35-100. Do you have the 20-35? If so, how's the girth compared to the 35-100?

Interesting, what primes are shooting with? How does the image quality of the 35-100 compare?

Can’t speak to IQ, I handled it for 20 mins, I didn’t purchase or rent one for extended use.

It’s thicker and longer than the 20-35. It feels like a GFX lens. It’s lighter than it looks like it’d be, and not terribly unbalanced, but it wasn’t for me. I think it’s actually smaller than Sony’s 28-70 GM but I didn’t have one of those near to compare.

I won’t be buying the 20-35 either. Not my jam. I will likely end up with the 25, 55, and 90. My Sony kit will be my zooms platform.

The 35-100 is my most used lens at the moment. It’s definitely big. But still smaller then the GFX45-100 and lighter then the XCD 35-75 it replaces. The 86mm filter is a pain. The hood is weak (like most of the new HB hoods) but I don’t use the native hoods. It is certainly more compact than carrying three V lenses. I wish it had the focusing clutch. I don’t mind the girth as for its size and weight I think it aids in handling. It feels well balanced on the X2D(2) bodies.

The AF is probably the fastest of any XCD lens so far. It’s not as sharp as the 90V but probably more consistent across the frame than the 55V. I notice little difference between it and the original 35-75, which remains excellent. And it does so while being faster at every focal length. The 35-75 may have slightly more contrast but I can’t see any real detail differences after several months shooting them side by side.

Compared to the 20-35 it’s slightly fatter and somewhat longer. It’s what you’d expect from the longer lens, considering how much faster it is. Build and build quality is identical to the 20-35.

So yes it’s big. But smaller than anything else for this format while having more focal range, less weight and equivalent optics to any options. There’s the GFX 35-70 which is tiny and very sharp but I found it’s aperture limiting and I did wish for more focal range.

My primes will still have a place in my bag. I still like my 28, 55, 90 kit some days. But the zoom will be my main travel lens going forward and likely I swap out to a prime in the evenings. Having two bodies with the 20-35 on one and the 35-100 on the other would slim down my main travel kit quite a bit.

What I want now is a 100-2xx and a fast focusing version of the 80mm.
