This evening I grabbed my X2D without checking any settings and shot some family Easter images. I mistakenly had the ISO set to 2500. I rarely shoot at 2500, but I can say that with modern noise processing software, I would be hard pressed to find a difference between base and noise suppressed ISO 2500. The RF is the same sensor and I suspect that at 6400 you will be able to get some great images, but the price paid is more time spent in post. So, lack of IBIS and f/4.0 probably is useable in all but really low light. I lack the ability to hold the camera steady, so at ISO 6400, with the RF sensor, I would probably use 1/125 - 1/160 second as my minimum shutter speed. I can shoot with those parameters in most indoor lighting. So, with the acceptance of extra time in post, I’m less resistant to the lack of IBIS on the RF. Good to hear ... no crow, necessary. Just good, honest perspective / info.
I had a similar experience earlier today ... shot (intentional though) 1/2000 at f/11, ISO 100 in cloudy conditions aiming for the sun (behind clouds). Then switched scene and significantly underexposed, since I wasn't including the sun directly. Correct exposure for the FG would have been more like f/4, 1/60s (about 8 stops ).
I just updated Adobe this morning, in case that's a salient point. When I went to work the file I lifted the snot out of it (the foreground) far beyond what I'm accustomed to (improved ACR ) ... I was only planning on working the sky. And that's with my M10R. Makes me wonder what it could be like with the GFX / X2D sensor. The tone curve adjustment was darn near a vertical line from 4 > 255 (foreground ... (2,3) 4/8/16/32/64/128/256 ... essentially a 6 - 6+ stop lift to values in the 1,2,3 realm also.
I realize it isn't the same as certain use cases folks will present ... but, my salient point is that software is just getting to a place that what used to be "restrictive" or "limiting" isn't much of a hill for it to climb, like it might have been not that long ago. Maybe I'm just a luddite or late to the party, but this one kinda made me go "Huh, what?" So, yeah f/4 and no IBIS ... not worried. Especially, since the P2P shows the sensor having about 1.5 EV better DR than my M10R (same ISO) and about 2 EV Max PDR diff at base ISO vs. base ISO.
So, a difference in faster glass (relative to other MF) options doesn't seem as restrictive / limiting as it once might have been (exposure basis) ... and, looking to the future of software capability, even more so. Granted, there are even faster FF options, but when you get into extreme fast glass, there are some tradeoffs (acceptable / desirable) that come along for the ride, too. I realize that some folks are having a massive case of (pre-use) FOMO with this f/4, non-IBIS thing ... bottom line, I'm not. YMMV
In some regard, the FOMO issue is a bit of irony. I say that, as I see the ethos of the GFX 100RF as an antidote to other FOMO, where pack mule MF gear isn't desired / appropriate or there are other considerations. That can be for either social choices, or for venue restrictions, etc. I mean, some venues won't even allow me to take in an M because it is ILC. And, they wouldn't allow me to take in a Q because the lens was longer than their restrictions. Essentially P&S or phone only, allowed. I could have taken the 100RF in that instance (concert venue). Incidentally, the 100RF is actually lighter then my M with a small 28 Cron mounted, and not as wide. A bit taller, though.
Show and tell. Last one included for reference to why I was shooting such high SS and stopped down. Also, the exif for aperture is only a "guess" by the camera (manual lenses), I wasn't that wide open (i.e. f/11).
