Thanks for the clarification - I don't follow these kind of collector items much, therefore I missed that this is a current city-based collector program. Even I think Leica should at least add some kind of schematic silhouette engraving of the city next to the Leica name on the top plate other than just the city name.

That would be much nicer than just the name engraving.

That's it, you are being promoted. You get to design the next $600 Teddy Bear...

All these M11 variants of late are just an end of the M11 run. For me the M11P is the best color M11. Just wish my M11M's had credential hardware also.

I have upgraded with every model since having the M9 and M9M, but I do believe that has now come to an end. I do not need more than 60MP (as a matter of fact I just received my SL3S) and more price increases.

I will now probably spend on lenses I want instead if camera bodies I don't need.

I am not defending an official multi class society. But, that is the reality of life in most Countries. I am also betting that the hospital for non citizens in Dubai is better than the hospital they would get in their Country of origin. The Emirati see nothing wrong with providing a special level of benefits to themselves. It permeates everywhere.

The National Health System in England doesn't provide the same level of health care as the private self pay, even there. Same here, Italy, everywhere I have lived in my life.

There is a big difference. Her maid is NOT ALLOWED in the good hospitals even if my sister was willing to pay for everything.

She is not allowed in the best hospitals, the free Government ones for UAE Citizens. You and I are not either. I understand that, I have been there many times. You are correct there are different categories of people there. The foreign workers are discriminated in many areas not just Healthcare. But they are there because it is still better than where they came from.

It reminds me of the time in the late 1970s in Kenya. There was only one T.V. station, the Voice of Kenya. It used to buy a lot of European produced content. They once bought a show that said it was a documentary showing the horrible life the African of South Africa lived under the very strict Apartheid Regime there in that time. It must have been aired without being previewed. After it aired many in Kenya were livid that the Africans in South Africa had better healthcare, education, food, housing and overall lifestyle than most Kenyans. People were fired at VOK over this.

My point is not that system like Apartheid are acceptable. They are not. But conditions are primarily related to from the hill you are sitting on. From your perspective the separate service eligibilities are offensive.

Dubai has one of the best and most advanced healthcare systems in the World. The free healthcare systems for Emiratis is one of the best. Not a citizen, you can't go there. Money doesn't help. Then there is the private healthcare operated as a business. As an expat you can buy into this system through insurance. It is also excellent. Not in the insurance program, you can't go there. Then there is the healthcare as a destination business. I am guessing that if your sister paid those prices her person could get treatment there. It is only about money. People come from all over the World to take advantage of this high level of care. If you are a contract low level worker you get free/very low cost healthcare form government services again. This is for sure budget healthcare. But, in a recent survey by Brand 94% of foreigners say that the healthcare they receive in Dubai is better than in their home Country. Say what you want, but that is a very strong statement.

It is in the end it is more about money than anything else.

When I am there I have a Emirati driver. Some of the police there drive exotic sports cars. I have always wanted to get pulled over and take a picture getting a ticket from a Bugatti Police car. It seems like whatever we do, when they see who is driving they never pull us over. It is an unequal society there for sure. But recognize that even here, the poor are not getting the same health services or outcomes as the affluent.

Nothing just me and Huss chatting back and forth. But to make it relate I can say that the same inequalities in life existed 100 years ago when Leica released its first camera.

To some extent, it looks like a parts camera?

I'll wait for the Brazzaville edition.

I got the email as well; I want the one that's shown, that shows all the cities in rotation.

I used a coin to scratch Landon on mine.

For a modest fee of $500 I'll happily engrave any city name on your M11 (or any camera).

Now where did I put the Dremel...

PS
No refunds. Spelling not guaranteed.

What am I missing here? A few years ago I owned a 100 year anniversary edition M240, and now, years later, Leica is celebrating 100 again?

He’s on the phone right now asking Leica about it.

Looks like it's the anniversary of the Leica I being released? And the previous one was of the first Leica camera being created.

I personally am waiting for the 100 Year Limited Edition celebrating the release of the red dial IIf, surely that'll merit another overpriced underworked low effort release from Leica.

There's still one 246 Drifter up for grabs!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296741115384

I wonder if anyone who bought those ever used it with a normal black/chrome lens on it. I just can't visualise it.

Interestingly a complete M240 Correspondent set went up for sale at Leica Mayfair last month, £19000. It disappeared a couple of weeks later.

This special edition is pretty lame, Leica must be doing well enough selling regular editions (look at their financials) to dabble less in all the paint color variants we saw with M10 series - Ghost, White, Reporter, Safari, Zagato.. they had a lot of fun 2018-2021 era there.

I'd probably buy a decent special edition now if I liked the look, but this ain't it.

I'll likely never get a collector's edition, but ... this is probably one of the least appealing versions.

I mean, some of the others have been way off my radar for aesthetic, but this one not only doesn't call to me ... it also looks "slapped together" in way that kinda goes against my sense of quality of "well thought" design ethos that Leica is regarded for. You know, spare parts laying around, let's just cobble them together and slap them on kinda thing. That, and the fonts / spacing / size ... well, anyway.

But, I reckon like most other things that Leica has done and folks have taken objection to "out of the gate" ... in TIME, it'll be what it is intended to be. A collector's piece that collectors will want for their collection.
