Looking at this actually has me worried.... are the knurled dials on the glossy black M11 actually silver underneath??
I know the literature says the top and bottom plate are brass... but they don't mention the dials. If the paint on my glossy black wears off the dials and it's this tacky silver colour showing through I'll be pretty livid.
You should be happy. With use your plain Jane M11 will become a highly desirable and expensive Dubai edition.

A special edition for a country where now photography with everything but a smartphone is pretty much forbidden (and enforced) everywhere.
Quite ironic.
Bastian my dear, special edition Leicas are not meant to be used, but to be shown.

Fair point, in my youthly carelessness I forgot about that for a split second.

It's the Dubai one - but also Shanghai, Wetzlar, New York, Tokyo and Milan - and if I get it right they all look the same, just different engravings on the top plate 🤷♂️

Gotta be honest, kinda disappointed as to how tame that special edition is. It just looks like someone swapped dials. I was expecting gold inlays, maybe some engravings of palm trees. And I'm not kidding.
This? snooze fest.
Absolutely!
Not that I'm a big fan of all the special editions in the first place, but just some different dials and an engraving, to celebrate their 100th birthday? So lame..

Why would anyone want to celebrate a region that gets its wealth and power from abusing natural resources and has one of the worst slavery indexes in the world, all while diminishing human rights?

Because LEICA, that's why!
To be fair, that wealth and power from natural resources is only because the rest of the world wants those resources.
But the slavery part? No argument there.

Fyi one of my sisters lives in Dubai. And in the same sentence that she was telling me how great it was, she also told me she was taking her maid to the hospital for ‘lower class people’ because they were not allowed to go to the good hospitals.
And she wonders why I refuse to visit her in Dubai. When I do see her, it is when we travel to mutual destinations such as visiting family in England, or she comes to the US.

I am not defending an official multi class society. But, that is the reality of life in most Countries. I am also betting that the hospital for non citizens in Dubai is better than the hospital they would get in their Country of origin. The Emirati see nothing wrong with providing a special level of benefits to themselves. It permeates everywhere.
The National Health System in England doesn't provide the same level of health care as the private self pay, even there. Same here, Italy, everywhere I have lived in my life.

I understand that Leica had a big event in Dubai last night. They even lit up the Burj in Leica colors. It appears that such celebrations will be held in all the cities. My guess is that these city editions will sell well. Probably designed to pay for the 100 year celebration events.

Likely the Near East including Dubai has lots of Leica collectors which is significant for Leica Camera's revenue. Would love to know how much exactly it is and how it compares to revenue made in Asia for example. Leica IMO purposely made this Dubai edition since this region is significant for business.

There is a list of cities getting a 100 piece special edition with this design and the city name engraved on it. That is why the design had to be so nuetral.

Thanks for the clarification - I don't follow these kind of collector items much, therefore I missed that this is a current city-based collector program. Even I think Leica should at least add some kind of schematic silhouette engraving of the city next to the Leica name on the top plate other than just the city name.
