Not everyone cares about ILCs for this purpose. It’s freeing to have an easily pocketable camera like the X100, Ricoh GR, film p&s, etc. by time you put a lens on the A7C, it’s out of that size range.
There are other reasons regarding the Fuji I detailed earlier in the thread.
I would not put the x100 cameras into the pocketable category unless one is wearing cargo pants. If the camera does not fit into my jeans pocket…then I am carrying it either in hand or a bag so back at the A7cr category.

Just an example. With an f/2 lens and 1/60, this would have required ISO 20 000.
Great image!
I agree, that's why I mentioned that when you're not carrying a tripod for shooting super low-light stationary subjects like this one, stabilization is a great aid.

Nor would I, my pockets are where cell phones go to die. I hope this doesn't upset anyone suggesting the X100 is popular with women and have no data to back this up. But it seems very natural to have a camera like the X100 in a purse. I think fixed lens cameras would also be very convenient in always fitting the same case and freeing as mentioned to eliminate the lens choice. I should have said before that I want an X100VI, just don't plan to buy one for the reasons mentioned. I'm trying to practice camera and motorcycle purchasing self-control and its not easy.

I think they’re multiple categories when it comes to camera size/weight:
- so bulky and heavy that the kit is the most important consideration;
- the kit is there, you notice it, but depending on your personal preferences it’s fine (or not);
- you don’t notice that you have a camera with you, but it doesn’t fit in a pocket;
- the camera fits in your pocket
The X100 series is in the third category, which is my preferred category, but one that isn’t always realistic, depending on one’s goals. Category two is quickly in my way, but others seem to be fine with carrying quite a bit of gear.

The problem with “pocketable” cameras is that the functional compromises are too much for many photographers.
There are only two answers. Accept the compromises because getting the camera into your “pocket” is the most important thing, or accept the compromise of a slightly larger camera instead.
Simple.

There are a lot of situations where IBIS saves the day. I made a series of handheld photographs in Cordoba’s mosque-cathedral using m XT5 with IBIS, often shooting at slightly smaller apertures in order to get sufficient DOF. Here’s one at 1/15 second and f/4:
Or this, in Portugal, at 1/17 second:
You could conceivably hand hold a shot at these shutter speeds w/o IBIS, but you could not count on them being devoid of motion blur — e.g. your keeper rate would be marginal. IBIS makes this reliable, even when shooting with the non-IS primes I prefer to use for these things.

Pocketable, small bagable, wrist hanging able.... The sort of magic of the X100 series cameras is that unless you like and have the accessory lenses (which I tried a long time ago didn't really like and sold). Is that the camera is all you need. You don't have to decide which lenses to take. You just take the camera and a few extra batteries and go.

I'm of the mind that the new sensor will basically replace the need for the tele adapter. The in-camera digital TC upscaling is very good and will be better now with more resolution to work with.
I'm still quite interested in using the wide adapter but never grabbed one.

Isn't the term "pocketable" just a way of saying "small, light, easier to carry camera"? I mean come on! Who walks around with their cameras in their pockets? My phone hardly gets that treatment. If you wear baggy pants or have coats with big pockets, OK. But is that a very good way to protect an expensive piece of equipment?

I think that any many cases this will be true. I took some XT5 shots of the Orion Nebula and used the digital zoom for the first time. I needed all the magnification I could get and it looked pretty good straight out of the camera. Also, I think it would be cool if Fuji added the 65:24 panorama ratio to the X series but especially the fixed lens models like the X100. Sure, its just a crop mode but I feel like the visual of it really helps compose.

I believe that Fuji's stance on this is that 40mp isn't enough to leave you with a serviceable final photo. Sure wish they'd let US decide that though. I'd use it all the time.

Gosh, this camera sounds so exciting, especially if the IBIS and rumored 40mp is true, that's a game changer. I do want it, but is it GAS?! Maybe not. In my opinion, those would be two features alone that would be extremely helpful and value in a small compact camera alone. However, I am. curious, as others mentioned, where is it being preordered prior to Feb 20th?

This was answered in post 17. LCS stands for "local camera store". If you don't have one local, call around to some.

At least Jonas Rask is in Fuji’s ear about adding it to the X line. Great write up here: https://jonasraskphotography.com/2023/11/05/the-future-of-the-elusive-6524-format/
That's a great article, and I really enjoy 65:24 for certain shots.
With the 40mp, you would still have 20mp, which I always hear people proclaiming to be "enough". Way more than enough for Tick Tock.

Let me play devil's advocate. Where are you displaying a 65:24 photo? If IG or TikTok, there is no way to adequately showcase it.
On the web? Ok, 20mp is enough, for now, for a 5K display...but won't be for long...
Printing? Won't have the latitude to make a truly showcase image at 20mp.
I'm like 25% with Fuji on this...it's a feature best left to MF 50 and 100mp sensors, in terms of "protecting" Fuji. The other 75% of me thinks the consumer should have the choice to print too big or post too small on the internet

I may carry my phone in my pocket — and sometimes use it for photography — but my camera is almost always in a small bag. When shooting the XT5 and the 27mm f/2.8 it goes in a very small bag thatfor goes over my shoulder. It is big enough for the camera, my wallet, my phone, and a couple of small extras. It might be 4” wide, 2” thick, and 6”+ tall.
So it isn’t “pocketable,” unlike my phone. But I’m not sure what camera that I’d be willing to use would literally be pocketable, and end up getting carried in my pocket.

Is it a “game changer?” Hmmm… Since it is mostly very similar to its predecessor — same form factor, same lens, etc. — that might be overstating things a bit. I think it is more of a “game improver,” perhaps?
It, like the previous X100-series bodies, does have the ability to generate gas.
On another topic…
The 40MP sensor does allow a bit more cropping but you are still limited by lens resolution and camera stability and all the rest. You can do the math to see the size difference if you crop out a section with the pixel dimensions of a 26MP sensor. Most people are surprised to find tha the difference isn’t as great as they expect. It is a difference, but…
