Will you be buying the upcoming Fujifilm X100VI?
Yes, I'm planning to pre-order it as soon as it's available.
Maybe, but I'll wait until I've read reviews on it.
No, I'm content with my current Fuji camera.

I preordered as well but even though it's a much bigger system, I've become accustomed to the image quality of my SL2-S. I had put some funds aside for the SL3 and think my money would be better spent in that regard. I'm also primarily a 50mm shooter, so 90% of the time I'd be throwing resolution away like I did when I had the Q3. I do have a preorder, though - so I'm wondering if it would still be better to take the camera when it arrives and give it a go.

I keep telling myself I don't need an X100VI because I am quite happy with my X-T5 and X-T30ii, I don't shoot much street, wasn't wowed with the optical VF when I did try an X100, and tend to prefer 40mm and 28mm equivalent as a combination. But I gotta admit the 100VI is a compelling package and looks so cool. I must stay strong!

I'm hoping the X-T30ii replacement that Fuji rumours is suggesting will come later this year will have IBIS.

I preordered one in all the excitement last night, and cancelled in the morning. I will not be using ovf, not using internal flash, I don't like lcd display that I cannot hide away. And I hate the idea it needs additional accessories to make it "usable". I had x100v for a short time in the past, and nothing changed with things that I did not like.
x-h2 is clearly a better option for me, if I decide to add more fuji cameras.

Additional accessories to make it usable?

I have an X100T, and it has worked well for me. A bit more low light performance, and the ability to crop will be welcome. I guess IBIS won't hurt. It's been 10 years, I think I got my use our of the T.

These cameras get all kind of design awards and stuff, but to hold it without dropping you need an aftermarket grip, and/or a thumbrest. And then you need a soft shutter button (it is even included in limited edition). And also you need an adapter and filter to weather proof. You can use camera without any of this but ooh so many users get at least some of these accessories.
I got a thumbrest, and weather protection for my x100v. And if I kept it longer I would get a grip to make camera a little bit taller and grippier, like Olympus om1.
For me, this is a bad design that could be easily improved.

Interesting. I used mine for 10 years was nothing more than a spare battery.

It’s a camera, not a jeep wrangler.

I like the X100V without a grip. It’s not heavy enough to need it, and a flat body is helpful to fit in a jacket pocket.

A soft release button is a $5 chunk of Amazon plastic.

A filter isn’t necessary unless you’re getting water blasted at the front of the camera. I bought one, but it was more so I can use the camera in a pocket or bag without a lens cap.

Personally, I feel the body design is near perfect. My only real complaint is that the flush buttons don’t work well with gloves.

XT5 with 18mm and 27mm lenses sounds like your idea setup.

I hear you on the “looks cool…” and “must stay strong.” I almost succumbed to the X100v after using one. It is a lovely little classic-style camera. For me it came down to practicality — would I really get enough use out of it given how successful the XT5 with the 27mm f/2.8 has been for me?

Sadly, from the “cool gear” perspective, the answer has been “no.”

Now if Fujifilm would like to loan me one and prove me wrong… ;-)

For me, I’m pretty content with my X-T5 + lenses for landscape/travel work. Coupled with my GRIIIx that is my take everywhere camera that I throw in my pocket, I’m happy with my current setup as is.

That said, The X100VI looks like a fantastic camera.

Not buying. I'd rather wait for the glut of cheaper X100V's from owners with GAS! Offshoring production seems popular now.

I 100% agree. That is my combination. Also the X-T5 with XF 27 is only 2oz more than a X100VI and fits into the same coat pocket that an X100v would.. My GRIIIx is a better carry all the time size for a camera than them both. That helped me avoid the pre-order queue for the VI. I also have a Q2 reporter that I liked better than a X100V that I sold after getting it.

My X-T5 with Sigma 18-50 pushed away the GAS for a Q3 and I hope it works for the VI.

I expect that is why they moved production to China.

Placed my preorder yesterday. Previously had the original, and then the S. And yes, I loved them but also had ongoing wishlists for improvements along the way. lol

Having skimmed through this thread, it appears this new release is somewhat polarizing.

While I don't believe it to be the perfect camera for everyone, I think there are many who either haven't shot with or owned one to fully understand the nuance of the niche it fills.

For enthusiasts like me who like to use a variety of different tools at different times, the X100 series brings a very specific package (especially now) that is unmatched by anything else on the market.

I also understand the reasoning behind some who would rather just attached some other comparable prime to their ILC. However, it is impossible to get a 23/2 to have the same profile/protrusion from the body, as the one on the X100 is specifically designed for it. Sure, there's the 18, 27, etc, but none of them are going to be what the custom crafted 23/2 is. Yes, I've tried satiating myself with those options as well (along with still owning a WR 23/2 now for my XT-4).

Combine all of the same qualities it's always had like the leaf shutter, built in ND filter, tiny flash, etc with the new stuff like IBIS and higher res sensor with improved AF and its impossible to find a true comparison with another product on the market (even with taking into account the shortcomings it still has).

I guess the only thing that would trigger me to upgrade from the X100V would be if the AF/tracking ACTUALLY was noticable improved in real life situations. Although the algorithm is updated I fear the lens design is too slow to keep up. I guess I will have to wait for user feedback before I decide, but then the camera is probably sold out already 😅

Joining to be alerted of new posts. I have owned the X-100, 100s, and the 100T... must be a sucker! The leaf shutters and ND filters (not to mention the lens) were the star attractions for me.

I’ve shot a 35/1.4 on both an X-T4 and X-T5. The 35/1.4 isn’t exactly a fast-focusing lens, but I felt it was better with the X-T5’s improved algorithms. It found the eye faster and had fewer of those classic Fuji focus->unfocus->focus jitters.

I think it’s safe to assume the V to VI improvement will be similar? It’s not like a 23mm lens needs to be all that fast to hold focus!

I have owned all versions, and currently have the V since release. As much as the new specs of the VI seems all well and good, I think this will be 1st time I skip the release of a new X100.

If this is going to be your only camera, then I feel its worth it to have the VI's features for the price. Great balance of TECH with great fit/feel and dont overlook how sexy it is. It is a niche product and can be hard to understand why these are so popular, until you own one.

The VI is definitely checking many boxes, but for me in comparison to V I have, the IBIS is the main upgrade and I already have that in my other system cameras I own.

My wishlist for the VI was a substantial bump in battery life and improved focus motors in the lens. Doesn't look like we got either of those, so I will hold onto my V until the VII comes around. Really exciting for those who have been waiting, though!

That is a good point -- if people own other systems, this is not a huge upgrade. If I think I'll need IBIS or I'm shooting video, I'm going to bring the XT4 and more lenses and leave the 100V at home.

But if the 100VI is the only thing I am bringing with me all day, more megapixels and IBIS can't hurt.

For me the main drawback of my 100V is the f2 lens. I wish it were f1.4, but I get why it's not. If you are someone who likes more control over depth of field, there are better options out there. The relatively small EVF is more "fine" than "great" as well. Also, controversial opinion, but I don't like the leaf shutter. I like the "snap" of a curtain shutter.

I'm curious. How often do you use the ND filter and under what circumstances? Also, why is a leaf shutter such an attraction for you? I hadn't really given those features much thought before your comments.
