Not necessarily what the A9iii is made for, but I wanted to test out the 300 GM with the 2x TC. I plan to use the camera primarily for my son's fencing competitions; season starts in September.
Most of these only have a minor crop applied except where noted. Man, if birds were as easy to track as airliners!
I have no idea how you birders do it. I have so much respect for you guys.
Finally got a chance shoot some sports with the A9III. I was only able to shoot about 1/2 the game, so can't really speak to the AF speed and accuracy vs the A1, but it's definitely fine. I shot with the 200-600 and while it's a fast lens, it's not the fastest. But what I was blown away by was the precapture. It will be hard to shoot the A1 without it. I do notice the reduced resolution vs the A1, but for sports images where I was able to fill the frame, it's not a deal breaker. The 200-600 helps with filling the frame.
First time using precapture like 30 seconds into the game. Not sure I would have been able to anticipate this collision and get a whole bunch of images to choose from without it. (using 30fps).
Another that precapture helped with getting the image. I saw the girls grab the girls jersey in the viewfinder. Normally, if I saw it, I missed it. But, nope, I hit the shutter and I had the image and a bunch of others to pick from.
It was a lot of fun to shoot and I'm sure that as I get more used to it, I'll be able to put more of the features to use. I didn't even try the 120fps for fun.
Got a chance to shoot some action at the beach before my field sports kick off in a couple of weeks. Water had been churned up by TS/Hurricane Debby and was not it's normal beautiful turquoise. But the waves made for a bit of fun. I need to learn to be more discriminating with my shutter finger and the FPS. I did use the precapture a few times to get the very beginning of the ride, but not sure it was really necessary and I ended up with way too many shots. But it was also a ton of fun.
EDIT: I took a look at these and on this site they look soft. They are not. Not sure what's happening with my web host (smugmug) and the sizing of these.
All shot with the 100-400 at about iso 250 and varying shutter speeds of about 1/2000 to 1/2500 or so.
We had a little lightning tonight. This is a stack of 11 images. Taken with the A9III and a 20-70 Sony lens . The lightnining was some distance a way so this image was cropped.
