My issue is more when they fly parallel, the camera goes to the close wing tip rather than stick on the eye. The flying towards me generally is great although with water droplets with the ospreys the AF can go to a close water droplet.
But I should explore disabling subject recognition, thanks for heads up.

Great shots, Robert! Did you shoot 120 FPS for the opposing passes?. I tend to follow the "wrong" jet in the opposing passes so the one I follow is in the back when they cross. How did you get to shoot them at sunrise? Special permit? Outside the fence?

I think I shot the last cross at 120fps. I had just changed my button layout the night before. Moving a temporary 120fps version of AF-On to my AEL button and changing my C5 button to toggle precapture on/off. So I kinda forgot to use it 😄
As far as choosing the wrong plane to track, I do the same thing. Even though I’ve seen the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels many times 😂
I’m was able to take sunrise photos because I purchased the Photo Tour Ticket package. One of the perks is they let you onto the tarmac and take photos at dawn before the gates open to the public. Feel free to DM me for more details

Thanks Robert. In May I was shooting the Blue Angels on the Naval Academy campus, I was 10' from the narrator, who was a
Blue Angel pilot, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I asked him how I could choose which jet to track in the opposing passes so the jet I track would be in the front when they cross, I explained it several times, he had no idea what I was talking about.
