Got out with the 2X teleconverter and the 300mm. This image is about 1/5 of the 50 MP full frame and is close to a 100% crop when viewed. I was not disappointed with the results this combination gives me, although I did notice some strange focussing behavior in some shots. Don't know what was going on there (had a small green box indicating focus, but image didn't look like a focus took place within that box).
Overall very pleased with the images that resulted from using the 300mm with the 2X.

I don't know if you shoot the A1 with the 2x on other lenses but that's "typical" behavior for it in cases like this. If the subject is higher contrast it's less likely but once the contras is below a certain threshold this problem will kick in.

I will message you directly when I need a 300 hood (if my 400GM ever sells) and send my friend your way for his if he wants one. He has your hood for his 600GM.
