Thank you, Hodie! There are so many airshows in Ca if you are willing to drive. Big one coming up in Huntington Beach and San Diego. The best part of the show in Sacramento this year is it was held in late afternoon/sunset time, the light is just miles better than the typical 11:00-4:00 airshow time.
A few more. Some of these were shot at ISO way beyond my comfort zone (3200). I really enjoyed the light weight, the compactness and the sharpness of the 300 GM+2X TC.
Keeping this thread going. The main reason I bought the the 300 GM is to shoot hummers in my yard at close to MFD. I grow some of the flowers in pots so I can move them around to position for cleaner background and better light, doesn't always work though.

Just got my copy of the 300mm f/2.8 GM a few days ago. I had been waiting for that lens for over 6 years, glad to finally have it. Had to take it out to test it (this shot is with the 1.4x TC)
Douglas - I have tons of hummers in my yard, but mine seem to be a bit more skittish than yours. Do you shoot from a blind? Any tips on getting in close? My 300 GM is on the way

Hi Scott, the hummers in my garden are skittish too but sometimes they come as close as 6-8' even if they see me. Most of the time I shoot from my study, which is about 6-9' away from different parts of the flower bed I made for hummers. They don't see me until I open the window, sometimes they will fly away but come back later. Sometimes I just put a chair on the lawn about 8' from the flower bed in the morning to get better light. I grow some of the flowers in containers that I can move around to get cleaner background and better direction of light. I have a few feeders to lure them them too. As I said before, the main reason I bought the 300 GM is to use it with the 2X TC to shoot hummers in my yard at/near MFD.
