p.22 #1 · Nikon unveils the highly anticipated Z8 camera!
I wrote this before I knew of Geoff's above and it was only when I posted this, that I saw he had posted a response too.
Here, I refer to the latest Steve Perry Z8 YT film posted above.
@ 7:00 he posted a picture comparing the Z9, Z8 and A1 battery lives. This simplifies the battery question.
@ 7:43 he suggests shutting the camera off to save battery. I already do this frequently during my nature outings. However, with my D850 I use the added battery grip with the larger battery that enables 9fps.
@ 11:00: He says that the Z8 is "the best bang for the buck wildlife and nature camera that you can buy right now". To be fair, everyone will have their own opinion on this. And it is going to take a lot of time for all Z8 shooters to form their own opinions of this new camera.

I don't think battery life is a big deal. Carrying a couple extra EN-EL15s along and swapping them when you have a moment as battery gets low is not too big of a deal.
Also I'm sure different settings on the different cameras can change these results significantly.
I also feel that it is no big deal to carry an extra battery or two if needed. I also suspect that Nikon will probably do something to change this whole Z8 battery debate that we are tired of reading about.

I enjoyed watching Steves latest video with the Z8. And imho he's correct about the Z8 being the best bang for the buck wildlife and landscape camera. While the Z8 is not in the hands of the masses yet. I'm looking forward to what its capabilities are.

120 is not inherently slow mo but is easily transformed into slow mo.
The Z8 and Z9 video modes and abilities are identical (save for record time).
What is the difference between native 240fps vs editing a 120fps to 240fps in post? Also, 120 is for 1080p but limit for 4k is 60fps, so if modifying in post to 240 is it not as “smooth” as if it were native?

No clue what you mean by 120fps to 240fps in post. 4k max frame rate on z8/z9 is 120, 8k is 60.

Sorry, I know enough to be dangerous with video. I assumed when you said 120 can easily be transformed to slow mo meant you could change the frame rate in post. I should ask my daughter, she does lots of video editing.

Yes, you change the framerate DOWN to make it slow mo, not up. You can fit 4x as many frames from a 120fps file into 30fps, meaning action is slowed down 4x. If you could shoot 240 natively, you could slow time down 8x in a 30fps video.

I feel like you just taught an old dog a new trick, this now makes sense to me. So 240fps ends up being 10 times slower because when you down the frame rate to 24fps that ends up 10 times slower than the original frame rate. So what happens when you take a 120 FPS and make that 10 times slower which would be 12 FPS I’m guessing that would look funny to our eyes, which is why 240fps would be nativeley better for 10x slow mo?

Yes that's all correct. You don't want to output a video slower than 24p.

So that’s why native 240fps in camera would be better if you want slower video, I understand why slo mo aficionados wish Nikon would have offered that at 1080p. For me, the camera is mainly for stills and I don’t care so much about all the video specs as long as it can do some kind of 4k so I can video some of my kids stuff then we’re good.
