No argument, seems like an easy feature to implement. Maybe Sony will implement it some day.

Been awhile but Fuji allowed you to set up auto transition from Mechanical, to EFCS, to Electronic based on Shutter Speed markers that could be adjusted. Worked great.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves with Sony. It might sound trivial, but when you get back from shooting just to find some shots ruined by EFCS-bokeh, it can really get on your nerves. It happens even to the pro-reviewrs out there from time to time.
On the other hand, this weird Sony policy makes A1 look better in this regard .

I listed my A1 on the B&S. I know I can get what I need done with both the A7IV and A7rV. So keep the data flowing here. With the little extra money I'll get a TC 1.4 as well plus bump my CFexpress card up to another 160 . If it don't sell than no problem for me.

It's sad that Sony ignores feature sets that get talked about quite often and really are just a firmware away. Why and we all have seen this over the years so I do not expect any upgrades in firmware. I know we ask but it rarely happens. My theory buy the cam that makes sense today and not what you hope for from Sony. Best advice I can give after what now Oct. 15, 2013 since the A7R. I bought the A7r day one.

I think it's a mixed bag, we did get focus stacking for example. So not completely ignoring feedback.

Or...Sony did address the issue ...when they gave us the silent shutter in the A1 😉...You have to pay to play! ( joking--sort of?)

What is the impact on Bokeh with EFCS? I have heard about it but don't really understand the implications. Is it only with EFCS or also while using Electronic shutter
So I have always preferred to use my camera with the mechanical shutter for photography. Considering the rolling shutter on the A7R series cameras, I very infrequently use EFCS or Electronic shutter due to the impact to Bokeh and rolling shutter.

You are right, I’ve never seen this abundance of stock/inventory of a newly released Sony FF mirrorless one day after release. Wondering what this can mean too. Hopefully this means Sony is planning for a big year-end bump in cameras sales by flooding the market with inventory based upon previous preorder/buying behavior ?
I think they staggered the global release in a way to alleviate and supply-chain shortages. Europe was getting them almost a month before the US, for example. That gives them the ability to also shift supplies around as needed. On top of that, the global economy is not exactly booming right now, so I wouldn't expect it to fly off of the shelves either, especially when people are already racking up bills for normal holiday spending. No need to speculate too much beyond those basics.

It sort of fades/truncates the bottom of the bokeh balls. It can also act as sort of a graduated ND affect where the top of the frame ends up being darker than the bottom (uneven exposure.)
I think the rule of thumb is 1/1000+ don't use EFCS (some people say 1/800.)
Quickly dug up a link that shows you the impact to bokeh...

Sony typically sells new camera releases to Europe just about 30 days ahead of North America. So nothing out of the ordinary there.
I bought a brand new r5 yesterday here in NA. One day after release and no preorder. I've never been able to do that before when buying a new FF Sony mirrorless camera. Reasons why is ours to guess and maybe time may give up more details. I do however like your speculation about Sony may have shifted inventory from one market to another.
Economy wise. I hear and read what the media says about the world economy--but as usual real-life and "the media" often seem to disagree--at least from what I can tell locally and in my travels.
OTOH, there is now strong competition at the A7rV level.

It is possible that this release just has not garnered the same amount of interest. Whether due to the perceived minor updates over the previous generation, the competition, high pricing, individual financial constraints or a combination of all.
I for one was interested since I've had my A7RIII for a few years now and was looking to upgrade to a newer camera with better integration (wifi/hdmi/usb) and performance.
It speaks volumes that only 2-3 years ago, The A7III was the only camera being discussed everywhere. Now, we are comparing the A7RV to the A1, A7RIV, A7IV, Canon R5 and they are all viable alternate choices.
I have an A7RIII, A7RV and A7C and am having a hard time deciding which one to keep for my non professional, travel and family use.

"buy the cam that makes sense today and not what you hope for from Sony"
Good advice ! Camera's are a weird business where for some reason people "expect" updates after the sale. Or if a new feature is introduced they expect say a higher priced body to instantly get that feature. Bug fixes make sense of course. Also if the company tells you up front something will be added. But adding new features that were just not there when you bought the camera I just never understood the complaining. I understand the disappointment/frustration but very few other industries give you upgrades for free after you buy something knowing full well what it has and has not. There is always going to be something new in any newer camera release. If not no one would ever upgrade. Delaying my departure for NY till my dang UPS guy shows up with my RV

I know some here are trading off getting the new A7RV vs an A1 and a lot of comparisons are being made. For the longest time I’ve owned an A7Rx and A9x to get what I needed from different cameras optimized for Sports and action and one for higher resolution landscape and other work. Did the same when I owned Canon DSLRs. I can honestly say that it is still worth while with a Sony A1 and the new A7RV that are optimized for different types of shooting.
I now have both and it’s great to have two camera with very similar menus, common approach to setup, same physical size, common batteries, battery grips, L- brackets, world class viewfinders, memory cards, etc. the list goes on. Nikon and Canon are very competitive but the EOS R5 and R3 differences are a lot like the 5DIV and 1DXx used to be and Nikon’s Z9 does not mate well with the Z7II differences IMHO. So Sony is truly feeling like a System for full frame photographers. Sure it’s not medium format but that’s a difference no one has solved.

The shutter sounds about half as loud as A7R3, and about on par with A1 (in non-silent mode). It certainly feels more dampened than the older camera.
this is my experience compared to the A74. It is immediately noticeable
