I just got an e-mail from B&H saying mine has shipped and will be delivered on Wed. (to WA).
I do find all the arguing/discussion on FM amusing. I don't understand how some people get their undies in a bunch over another person's gear. I couldn't care less what you are shooting with, other than hearing your review if it's something I'm interested in. In my case I've been pretty happy with my trusty old A7rII for many years, but have been jealous of the new menu system and better batteries for years. I'm planning on getting more into birding this year and will happily make due with 10 FPS instead of going for the A1 which feels too $$ for that one thing.
Weather looks messy this week, so I doubt I'll get many good shots to share right away, but I'll try and get some posted ASAP....Show more →
I agree!
I can't afford $4000 for a body. I just picked a 4 month old like new A7RlV but I love reading what the people who bought one have to say.

Im still thinking about it. I wonder how available these would be after pre order today ship. I would be selling my A1
I'd try to resist that urge. Can't imagine the Rv would satisfy you after shooting the A1. And the way the A1 prices have been going on the B&S, it's not like you'd free up much cash by trading down.

Received mine yesterday. Coming from an A7C and A7RIII, the camera is a significant upgrade in almost every way. Only have tested it briefly in very poor indoor mixed lighting.
Can you see some noise difference at high ISO between the A7RIII and A7RV ?

I'll test it later today. At first glance using the camera LCD, I did not really see a significant improvement. ISO 640 is very clean on both. I never really liked higher ISOs 3200 and up on the A7RIII compared to my lower MP Nikons like the D700/D3.

This is hard ... I have been waiting for the A1 prices to go down to buy a used one. Now it can be found for $4.6k-$4.8k (or new for EDU $5.5k minus 10% from SonyEdu), the A7RV is launched. Articulated screen, AI AF and improved IBIS, it's really tempting.
Will replace my A7RIII so either camera is a nice upgrade.

If you shot the RIII for years and wasn't complaining of the fps, then the RV will be a significant upgrade. There is no 'need' for the A1 unless you require the speed that it possesses.
The 1k-1.5k difference in price that you would pay for the A1 is not an insignificant amount. The enthusiast on this board is obsessed with speed and stacked sensors but that is not the end all be all of photography.

For Sports/BIF and non studio work I still think the A1 is king.
As a tech enthusiast, I would love to own both the A7rV and the A1. However, I feel for most non professional photographers, paying 4K and up (or even 3K and up) is overkill.
The A1 is due for replacement or. a major firmware upgrade to bring it in line with some of the new features from Sony.

I had the A1 already. Great camera just didn't need the speed. I do like my MP The RV on paper at least fits me better. One thing I would be curious about is higher ISO performance between the A1 and RV. Wouldn't change my mind at this point but would be interested.

Well I know mine shipped today and will now have to decide if it is a keeper. I have an A1 which I use for BIF and other fast action work. It’s not a replacement for that. It’s replacing my A7RIV and A7IV which I sold a few weeks back. I’m hoping the new RV offers the same colors as the A7IV which I like. If it pans out I will probably also sell my Canon EOS R5. I don’t shoot video really so I’m thinking it’s a good replacement and will finally reduce 3 cameras to one. The Canon RF 85/1.2L lens is the only Canon RF lens that outperforms a Sony GM. Not sure how the new Canon RF 135/1.8L IS compares to Sony’s version.
Will also be interested in what other early adapter Guinea Pigs think so keep on sharing your thoughts.

I don't shoot sport and have been happy with the overall speed of the A7RIII, I don't need > 10fps. The fast silent shutter (and 4k120fps maybe) on the A1 is the big plus for me. The A7RV seems as good or better for everything else.
I'm also interested in the High ISO performance between the A1 (or A7RIII) and RV. I use up to 6400 on the A7RIII with great results (+ noise AI)
I assume base ISO noise level is similar for all.

My RV is due to arrive from B&H tomorrow as well. It will replace my A7RIV and pair with my A1. I don't really need the over 10 fps shutter speed of the A1 and I'm not big into video so I will see if the A1 is worth keeping once I take out the new RV for a spin.
