Why do you feel it’s illogical? I just don’t see the value in the A7R5 at $4500 compared to a lightly used A7R4 at $1800. What is it that you don’t understand with this.
Same with you. If you feel the A7R5 is priced too high for your wallet, look for something else that better meets your budget. Don’t blame Sony for not being able to afford the new A7R5.
It's illogical becuase you equated not willing to pay full price for a camera with the camera is not for you. You didnt get that? I guess you let your attempt of cheap shot carried you away that you lost your mind.
And if you dont see the value of rv at msrp, then it's overpriced at that price. But you still try to argue "no"? Your writing is so self conflicting.
Besides, any prudent person will always be looking at the alternatives. Thats just common sense. There is no need for someone like you to give directive as if you have special wisdom. You dont.
Finally, most people understand the significant difference between not willing to pay with not able to pay. Are you really that confused that you can't comprehend even that or are you just trying to take another stupid cheap shot?

I have no time right now to discuss something both you and I have exactly zero visibility into and have just about that much knowledge of the photography market. You seem confident the A7R5 will be a train wreck due to its pricing yet have zero to back up this confidence. I see little left to discuss…we’ll both see things clearly in a years time.

One of the First Word problems - the latest Sony camera is overpriced!
some will (and have) pay the price. Over time, the price will go down. Then some others may pay the price. It’s how the market works. We’ll see how well it does, but so far the AF sounds pretty impressive. To some that’ll be a big deal.

Received mine yesterday. Coming from an A7C and A7RIII, the camera is a significant upgrade in almost every way. Only have tested it briefly in very poor indoor mixed lighting.
Some observations on the limited usage so far.
Pros
The AF is a big jump from both the A7C and A7RIII.
Eye tracking in the viewfinder/screen is updating constantly and finds and tracks the eye much quicker and consistently. Profile shots and odd angles do not seem to throw it off. It finds the face and eye much earlier on the subject when at a distance.
The viewfinder and screen are also a big improvement over the A7RIII and way better than the A7c
I don't really do much video but the eye af and tracking are game changers when compared to the A7RIII. A7C is still very usable if not as consistent at tracking eyes.
Ergonomics are much improved over the A7RIII, I had not realized how much the body has changed/improved.
Menus are new to me still but seem to be much easier to grasp and intuitive when trying to find a setting. I have my custom modes dialed in for the A7RIII so I don't think this is a huge issue.
Colors/White balance seems much more pleasant and accurate to my eyes (may not be for everyone)
Cons:
Weight compared to A7C
Price
Compared to the A7RIII, the images don't really appear night and day better when looking at jpegs but the white balance and colors do seem to be more pleasing.

We should know in a day or two....the a1 is one heck of a camera though. Not sure it really makes sense, unless you think the a7 IV can take the place of the a1. The a7R V is a different beast without the high speed readout of the a1's stacked sensor....

Don't do it GM. Resist the urge!!
I'm getting the RV but I just don't think it's an improvement over the A1 in any significant manner to take a loss on an A1 for it. If someone NEEDED what the RV has, they wouldn't have purchased the A1 to begin with. Whereas the A1 has something the RV doesn't, speed in abundance.
Everything the RV has now that other cameras are lacking will eventually show up in other Sony cameras. Wait for the A1(2) to get rid of the A1.

Picked mine up from a bricks and mortar store in Sydney.
It’s very nice, sort of like an ultra refined r4. Sure I could get by fine with r4 but just about every small thing where I’ve thought “why can’t I do that” seems fixed. For the first time the smartphone remote is seamless (and has touch to focus again), eye AF works with the remote properly, the self Ti ear can be used with bursts … lots of little things I haven’t seen in reviews, besides the IBIS and focus main points.

I got one to replace r4, which makes sense - it’s so much more refined. But the A1 has most of that refinement already so I don’t see why you would swap an A1 for an R5, unless the AI focus or extra IBIS matters more than the speed of the A1.

Hi Guy,
I would not suggest replacing your A1 with an A7rV. I think that you will regret it and take an unessary hit. To replace an A7rIII, A7rIV, or an A7IV that is a different question and animal. In my case, I am not purchasing one and will stay with my A1 and my A7rIII as the A7rIII has a smaller grip than my A1 an plays nicer with my Cambo Actus for left shift in landscape orientation with FF lenses set to infinity focus.

Only the label has been created, it's not even in the Fedex system yet. I don't think I'll get a reliable arrival date until Fedex gets it in hand. If they get it today, it should be tomorrow.....if tomorrow, then Wednesday.
Update: It's in the Fedex system now, with an estimated delivery date of tomorrow. But again, that assumes B&H gives it to Fedex today.

Rent it once it becomes avail. Price is not going to change before it hits the rental pool and then maybe somebody will be selling theirs on the B&S and you save a couple hundred
Mark Galer's opinion based on actual experience with both the A1 and R5 and if these were the two bodies you are considering ...
* If you need the performance of the stacked sensor for action, sports, BIF, 120p 4K movies = A1
* Wildlife, Landscape, Portrait, macro, vlogging = A7R5

I just got an e-mail from B&H saying mine has shipped and will be delivered on Wed. (to WA).
I do find all the arguing/discussion on FM amusing. I don't understand how some people get their undies in a bunch over another person's gear. I couldn't care less what you are shooting with, other than hearing your review if it's something I'm interested in. In my case I've been pretty happy with my trusty old A7rII for many years, but have been jealous of the new menu system and better batteries for years. I'm planning on getting more into birding this year and will happily make due with 10 FPS instead of going for the A1 which feels too $$ for that one thing.
Weather looks messy this week, so I doubt I'll get many good shots to share right away, but I'll try and get some posted ASAP.
