Interesting to watch it switch and acquire focus on that pair of flying ducks. Smooth transition, and didn't seem to have any problem with the water distracting focus.

Nice sequence! I agree, it’s a lot of fun, especially as you “scrub” through frames and find one that’s absolutely perfect.
I played with doing video frame grabs a bit yesterday, and while the UI is really nice and simple, it’s still an in-camera affair. 120fps mode is really easy to work with in Lightroom, so I think that’s how I’m going to do this kind of “must get the moment” shooting, like bat-on-ball stuff.
It wasn’t long ago that we thought the 1Ds/5D’s 12PMixel was huge and could cover any enlargement needs. If 120fps is the only way to guarantee the shot, 11MPixel will do (for me) in a pinch, I suppose. I only wish the camera allowed you to shoot 120fps in DX mode, cause if I’m throwing away that many pixels, I’d prefer a crop instead of a downsample.

Had a ice storm here and was able to grab a couple quick shots in the back yard of a couple birds looking for food near the feeder. Nothing great just some backyard stuff with Z9, 500pf and x1.4TC

I wanted to revisit something I brought up last week.
Why does Nikon simulate some sort of "click" noise when not in Silent mode whenever you hit Play or Menu?
This is so stupid.
I want to have the fake shutter sound at level 1 but that click gives me nightmares of shooting a DSLR dinosaur with a mirror clacking out of the way into LV or playback.
There doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of that fake click but still retain my shutter noise.
Does anyone have any reasonable explanation for why Nikon is adding this sound?
Is there any setting I'm missing to have that sound off but shutter sound on?

How did the AF feel at 1000mm? Clearly the central sharpness holds up surprisingly well.
In the full sun I was shooting in it was doing fine for these perched birds. However the other day I tried the 1.7x (didn't try the 2x that day) in cloudy/shady backyard conditions and the focus was terrible. I went and grabbed my A1/200-600/1.4TC to see how it compared. Nikon at 850 f/9.5, Sony at 840 f/9. The Sony was much better and stable once tracking. The Nikon sometimes would get focus but then lose it....green square back to red square....hunt, hunt....I'm sure the 2x would be even worse.
Despite these cherry picked shots I posted, I don't think I would bother shooting the 1.7 or 2x on the 500PF. There was a lot of inconsistency in the results even with just perched birds. I think I'd stick with the 1.4 and crop more.

I do. That is IBIS parking. If you turn VR off, it does not make that sound when you push menu or play. So Nikon did not add any sound.
