Off topic but any luck with the eagles? I have been eyeing the weather thinking about a trip up there this week or next - but not on a Saturday or Sunday.

Overall still slow for this time of year but there has been a decent amount of action. Today was heavy overcast. 4 or 5 flurries if action. There is plenty of parking still an hour after sunrise on the weekends unlike past years

Thanks - good to know. I have never had to deal with satellite parking and don’t relish.

It’s interesting to see the anguish some are experiencing over not knowing when their Z9 will arrive. If a person is impatient and gets easily aggravated by the unknown then they are probably best not preordering. One member at DPR named ProDude has been like a split personality or manic-depressive the last few weeks based on each day’s latest bit of delivery rumor, one post brimming with optimism and the next post raging at Nikon. I enjoy the pre-delivery fun and it matters not to me when I get my camera, but there are some people taking it all way too seriously.

Right? It's somewhat entertaining but does get old after while. I'm also enjoying the predelivery fun and my camera will arrive when it arrives. I'd love for it to come before Christmas so I can use for the holidays but, if it doesn't, that's ok too.

I agree with both of you. I understand that it's easy to get swept up in waiting for something but it's just much better to go find some other stuff to do. I've been quite lucky with the timing as I picked up my first photo printer last weekend and I've also been looking at opening a little etsy shop. Those things have given me something to occupy my free time and not just sit around spamming F5 on the forums.
When Nikon announced the camera it was surprising that there might even be deliveries this year. Anyone ordering it knew they might be in for a wait and so to get in line early. We also knew there's a chip shortage going on. On top of this I think we expected this to be a popular camera. Perhaps not as popular as it has ended up being, but it's not a crazy shock. Back then I said to a friend that if I were to get one by the end of the year or in January then I'd be over the moon. It's worth me remembering that when I'm now looking at 23/24th December instead of this week. Maybe I won't get one because I'm not NPS but I think it's quite likely that I will. With all this in mind I find it perplexing that anyone is throwing rage around at Nikon instead of just showing an iota of patience.

It's just stunning in a way. Nikon has yet to miss the B&H ship date, even though Nikon has never confirmed it, and Nikon US has never actually said anything other than "by the end of the year".
Yet people are running around freaking out over every rumor and bit of unconfirmed information..
Is it just the overall decline of society at large, but in microcosm? 😂

I am super excited. I already have my delkin black waiting for the z9 and the ftz2. I also got my screen protector.
I would be super happy if I get one in the first batch. I can't get mad at stuff that I don't control. In the meantime, I will happily use my Z6II. I have never been so excited for a camera .
This will be my first brand new pro camera. I bought a used D3 many years ago but didn't keep it for long.

Yes, certainly the majority here on FM don’t display the drama and immaturity of that other forum and it sure makes for more enjoyable reading and engagement IMO. Maybe I am getting too old to appreciate the drama 🤓

I’m totally with you on the excitement! I’m there too. This is my most anticipated Nikon launch.

I just hope dcisive gets his before this Non NPS guy does. I don't want him to mess his pants if I get one before him.
Besides I need some time to build me a new PC so it won't take all day to download those huge images. My old worn-out PC was laughing, could have been some moaning, when I placed the order.

No worries I have adult diapers. . In all seriousness I've pretty much got myself in a place where I'm looking at this in a very realistic manner now. Got rather worked up initially but have the common sense to know that the chance of me being near first in line come the 15th or the 24th or whatever it ends up being is probably down the line a ways. I don't take most of the so called reports very seriously like saying there won't be many shipped at first or when and where etc. I have fond memories of when I got a D700 and SB-700 which I had pre ordered from a dealer. The dealer said it was due in via UPS that day around 2pm. I went to the store about an hour early and hung around. Sure enough around 2pm the UPS guy showed up with some very large boxes. In side each box was a dozen bodies then a dozen lenses. He gently reached in and hand delivered them to me. A very special memory. Although now it will be up to the FedX or UPS guy doing the delivery eventually the experience will be much the same but on and even higher level.
I don't know if any of you know this, but I have a USB-C to USB-C PD cord and charger unit. Would that enable me to plug into the Z9 with the battery in place and immediately fire up the camera and get to mess with the menu before the battery get's fully charged? I was just wondering if that would work.

Oh man, please tell me this is a joke! You are now planning for how to play with your toy immediately to avoid the few hours it will take for the battery to charge? I am not sure you have fully reached the "I can wait for the camera" stage of recovery.
Anyway - Nikon has you covered. You can run the camera via USB-C. But the best thing to do is let the battery charge and use that time to read the manual - twice with camera in hand. That way you lower the risk of thinking the camera is no good due to user error and posting rushed thoughts on the internet. That happens all the time with new camera releases. Nobody wants to be that guy.
I hope you get the camera in short order. And I hope is all you are hoping it is.

Funny thing... Nikon is supposed to email NPS members when our camera is shipped to the dealership.
Now, I have not seen anyone getting such a notice so that means that (a) Nikon is.just going to release a pile of emails on the 15th telling lucky members that the camera is waiting for them, or (b) no cameras have been sent to dealers yet, but as the 15th draws closer we can expect to start seeing folks reporting that they have gotten the Golden Ticket aka email.
Or, (c) and we are all buggered.
Thank you on the good vibes about actually getting it. As for the charging if you look at the new charger that comes with the Z9 it takes 6 hours to fully charge. If it happened to show up late in the afternoon indeed I'd likely just plug it in and wait overnight to mess with it. I understand from some internet sources that the manual is scheduled to be available for download the same date the camera is to be available. So either the 15th or 24th of December. Since I likely won't get one right off I'll have plenty of time to read up on it. It's only too bad you can't juice up the camera via the USB-C source without having the battery in it, short of course of paying the $200 for their new AC adapter you can buy for the Z9, which of course then would allow one to operate entirely off of AC. From what I've seen it utilizes a dummy style battery that inserts the body allowing the outboard power supply to then plug in and run via an AC outlet. Otherwise I suppose one would be plugging in their PD rated USB-C to USB-C into the USB-C input of the camera which would allow for charging. I'm not 100% certain that as long as you had a battery in the body, be it charged or not, it would run with that USB-C plugged in. Should be a good read in the manual.

What I have a hard time understanding is how badly Nikon underestimated the demand for the Z9. Someone in marketing had to know sooner that they had a successful product about to be launched. How many cameras do they have in inventory ready to deliver on launch day? Is it 10% or 50% of anticipated demand? I believe it's chip shortages and their inability to ramp up production to meet the demand. It might be labor as well but I'm not sure Labor shortages are a problem here in the US so its probably a problem there as well. By the way I just received my Back Ordered status from B&H this morning. I ordered the morning of the 28th both the Z9 and the 100-400. The site is still saying delivery Dec.15th to ship. Don't ask me why they don't change that!!!

While we wait for shipping info coming later this month, here's some good words about Z9 ergonomics from a different forum photog who just tried it out:
“It was amazing. First thing I'll say is, it's not nearly as big or heavy as people on here often make it out. Everyone in the store noted that.
Using the 50mm 1.2 or the 14-24 2.8 on the Z9 felt amazing. They felt perfectly balanced. It was significantly more comfortable than using the Z6 II that was next to it.
I definitely want to stress to people who were holding off for a lesser camera because of the size and grip, you definitely owe it to yourself to actually handle one for yourself before you make a decision. I don't think anyone around me owned a D5 or D6, but everyone talked about how great it felt to hold one.“

How do you know they have badly underestimated the demand for the Z9?
As I said before. Many of us are setting ourselves up for disappointment by expecting a Z9 on Dec 15th. This date never came from Nikon. And to expect the Z9 on the first batch just simply they’ve preordered the camera.
