I did say lol. I know the z9 is heavier but if you add the battery grip to the a1 with a second battery the difference is not much . I always shoot with gripped body.

Sony a1 with 70-200 f/2.8 GM II is approx 1.7Kg
Nikon Z9 with 70=200 f/2.8 S is approx 2.7Kg
That is about 2.2 lbs more for the Nikon.
I guess I am just jealous that at my age that matters. I do wish I was young enough that it didn't.

I get it now. I guess I was thrown off because your post said "a1 without a grip". Maybe a typo?
I think the lens alone is almost as big a difference as the body. That 70-200 is an outstanding piece of glass. But huge!

I ran home from work to get the package off of my front doorstep. Had about 10 mins to shoot my backyard finches coming and going from the feeder. What can I say, it feels like a nice Nikon in the hand, BEAF was snappy and worked good on the finches. Too dreary to try any flight shots with a f/5.6 lens. I'll be out for the next 3 days testing it thoroughly. Battery at ~16% so plugged it in and should be ready for when I get home this evening to finish setting it up (I got it about 90% setup quickly before firing at the finches)..

Was actually expecting your first post about it to be negative, cool. arbitrage wrote:

Remember, Thom Hogan got 97% hit rate on his Z9. If you’re not getting better than that, you’re holding it wrong.

Not me. I expect he will be as honest and straight forward as he always is. He will give the camera a fair trial. I am expecting predominately very good results, mixed with a few minor criticism that will be based on preferences, and a few real issues. Hopefully the FM Nikon community will accept both the praises and criticism with grace.

True the camera doesn't feel "perfect" and there are some AF bugs that I think need to be ironed out in FW, but I've been enjoying shooting it so far. I just don't have any A9 or A1 experience to compare it too, just Z6II, D850, D810, A7RIV, D4 (all of these stomp Fuji for me) and I vastly prefer the Z9 over those cameras when it comes to AF. 1bwana1 wrote:

The ergonomics are great. The only minor complaint is the jumpy AF boxes. So far if it goes out of whack I can always coerce it into sanity I think by switching it to the smaller tracking box or 3D tracking at the push of a button. this is me wrote:
The camera feels perfect to me. However the AF does need some firmware fine tuning. Still very satisfied with it.

I should be getting close then. I ordered at 8:28 EST so 8 minutes behind you. Fingers crossed.
Dang. I was at 8:02 AM Eastern, but from B&H. Still nada. I also have an order in from a smaller store, but they have only received NPS orders, and didn't receive any at all until January.

True. I guess we're just basically stress testing this thing in our own ways. arbitrage wrote:
Well if I'd found AF negatives after 10mins of shooting finches on clean perches with distant OOF background then we'd really have some problems.

As I said, I had 10 mins after setting it up before I had to drive back to work so backyard finches were it. I'll be stress testing this thing like crazy come tomorrow....95% BIF....hoodies, buffies, wigeons, pintails, blackbirds, pigeons, kingfisher and whatever raptors I can find.

Oh don't worry, I knew that was just you quick glancing the camera. I expect the true test to be after the backyard stuff. arbitrage wrote:

I have mine on 15 fps...thing can cap off 1000 plus images really quickly. I'm assuming 512gb should be enough, but we shoot very different things. So good luck on that one. I haven't found XQD card buffer to be that limiting, then again I'm kind of stuttery on on the firing. I don't hold it down for that long. arbitrage wrote:
I just hope the 512GB CFex card that Pius lent me is going to be enough room
Otherwise I'm resorting to my XQD cards
