It could well be that the combination of a higher resolution sensor along with an improved color filter array and Look-Up-Tables and color mapping have been finally adressed by Leica to go head to head with Hasselblad and Phase One for best color sensor. One can dream, at least. Also; they have the considerable resources of Sinar now for several years, so it's not unlikely some of the Sinar color science can be employed to Leica. Sinar seems to be in an induced hibernation, alas.
I have never understood why Leica acquired Sinar 8 years ago... Looking back it seems like a complete waste of money...

Yeah, I got the invite too... And deleted it, haha.
But yes, curious to see what's new in the M11.
So did I.
I'll just let internet experts tell me what I am missing... apparently bokeh will be one of the things even though I already have that lens. Now I know it's the body that affects it.

Ha ha, yeah I gotta get me one of those bokeh king bodies.

Rich
Don't forget film cameras! That is where Leica's true glory lies...

The 50 lux ASPH and 50 Cron 2 are some of Leica's best lenses not just for sharpness but for Color Index as well, stacking up with Schneider glass for least subtractive damage to color. Both lenses will resolve to ~100 megapixels as well. Looking forward to seeing the M-11 with APO-Telyt-M 135 and lux 90 as well, should be quite amazing.

As for bokeh-aji and soul and Æsthetics; beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?
As an aside, the 'new' leica website is worse than the old......Show more →
The way you wrote your comment above you made it appear that I wrote that comment. I did not. I would never tell that a camera has a soul or not. However, I have heard that some cameras "steal souls" but maybe I heard that on Steve Huff's other Youtube channel 😉😎
Maybe they are doing fake bokeh in the processor like iphones? They could code the firmware so that the feature is activated when it detects that a future KOB mk2 lens ($15k) is mounted.

M11 reviewers are just so ecstatic to have a battery that lasts longer than 30 minutes, they get carried away
You either must be joking or you use your M very differently from how I do. I find with my M10 if a shoot a couple hundred shots a day, the battery last about a week. I shut off the camera between shots and I don't review on the LCD (it really isn't diagnostic anyway) and I use the rangefinder for focussing. Used this way, my M10 lasts considerably longer on a battery charge than any of my other cameras. Of course if I use the LCD or the EVF the battery can get used up quickly, but for rangefinder shooting I find the battery to be way more than adequate.
My M 10's battery doesn't have as long lasting life as my M 262 had but when shooting a job I get almost a full day from one. I always carry several so no big deal.

Yes, the M10 series' battery does not last as long as the M240/262 series but I can't complain about it. The SL series battery performance is debilitating though.

I'm exaggerating for sure. But the M10 battery life was a source of micro-stress for me. I did half my shooting with the optical finder, half with the rear LCD; but, for all shots, I did a lot of reviewing on the rear LCD, usually zooming and checking focus or just looking at the images for fun. The M10 has been the only camera I've ever owned that felt like I had to keep an eye on the battery level or was in danger of being caught off guard by it running low. Maybe I just missed out on that fun since I never owned an early mirrorless full frame camera.

The original SL wasn't bad, so maybe the SL2 IBIS is a culprit?
I mentioned it in another thread, but I'm hoping the new M11 battery is not only more powerful than the M10 battery but also more powerful than the Q2/SL/SL2 battery. If so, perhaps it will be used in the SL3 and Q3 so we have a single battery platform across all three products. I'm afraid, though, that the M11 battery will simply be a chopped-down Q2 battery with less charge.

It would be great if the batteries could get aligned across bodies. That was always a factor for me with SLR/DLSR and sticking with (usually) a single model or possibly family. Less of a problem with the smaller Leica batteries but I find it satisfying to have the SL/Q2 be the same. Not that I'm planning gn by any stretch to get a M11 having the same battery form function with more efficient cells would be great.
And like you mentioned, I don't find the SL battery to be debilitating. Certainly not the longest, but I've rarely needed a second battery with a day of shooting.

Seems like there is a message here? Maybe use an M for fast paced street or candid work? There might be other options, maybe better options, for the type of work you are doing.

It's not debilitating but a major weakness for the system imo. Many times my fully charged battery runs out while shooting and that goes for both SL and SL2 series. (Google it and you will see that I'm not alone ;-)
There is also the issue with continuous shooting getting disabled when the battery reaches a certain level. (usually only half empty)
This is unrelated to the M10 series where I find the battery adequate (M240 series way better).
The new M11 Improving on that is always welcome.

It wasn't anything I couldn't live with – I simply changed the battery when it got low. For the M10 variants, shorter battery life was the sacrifice they made to go back to the M9-sized body, and I think they made the right choice. But I welcome a better battery in the M11 since they kept the body form factor the same.

It's been a long time since I used the SL (never used the SL2), but I don't remember battery life being much different than my Canon 5D series at the time. Do you have a high-quality or high-FPS EVF setting activated? I used the SL when it was early firmware, so maybe Leica improved the AF at some point at the expense of battery life.

I'm saying the SL and SL2 series are power hungry. That's not an opinion based on hot air. I've used these cameras daily for a while. I was shocked by how bad they performed compared to something like the Sony A7R III for example. Believe what you want.
