I'm saying the SL and SL2 series are power hungry. That's not an opinion based on hot air. I've used these cameras daily for a while. I was shocked by how bad they performed compared to something like the Sony A7R III for example. Believe what you want.
I believe you, I was just speculating as to why my early SL didn't seem like a battery hog and apparently it is now. It's entirely possible I am simply mis-remembering.
I don't remember battery life being much different than my Canon 5D series at the time.
The Canon 5dII battery, if it is an original, lasts at least 4 times as long as an SL battery. So it’s hard to understand how you could not have noticed a difference.
Whatever new battery goes into the new M 11, the one thing that is guaranteed is that it will be at gouging prices for a back up, at least twice as expensive as any other longer-lasting battery out there.

Posted in the comments on the same rumor article, someone is guessing touch screen only, no buttons 🤔
I hope not. Some buttons are useful for those of us in colder climates. When temps drop where gloves are required I wear knitted mittens (not gloves) which keeps my hands warm and I can still push buttons. Most touch screens require me to take the mittens off to use the touch screen. A couple of years ago I was out in -20C happily shooting away with my mittens on and used the buttons often to change settings for the various scenes and the mittens stayed on, hands stayed warm and the camera happily kept on shooting. No buttons would likely have meant off come the mittens and the hands get cold.

I may change my mind when the full specs are released, but the more I know about the M11 the more I prefer the M10-R.
All touch screen would be weird. I seriously doubt they go down that road (though if they did, the used M10s would become very popular - we might not see a significant dip in pricing in the used market).

I do not agree with this leaker. To me, it is not about passion and so but about a tool I feel more comfortable with. Of course, we can like or even love our tools but if in a few years, I cannot use an M because my eyes are not up to it anymore, I'll switch to something else. I'll be nostalgic for a while maybe but that's all: I will not talk about the myth and so one.
I'm really just joking around. People should use what works for them. The justification sometimes is hilarious. We all do it.

I was using an old original 5D at the time. I'm not saying the SL battery lasts as long as the 5D did, I'm just saying I didn't notice battery life being an issue with either one given how long and how often I shoot. The M10 by comparison – that interrupted my shooting regularly with a low battery.

I won’t change my mind when the full specs are released. The more I know about the M11, the happier I am that I sold my M10-P a couple of weeks ago, replacing it with a lightly used M10-R.
I would love to have a big LCD screen M. From Panasonic dim small 3 inch to SL2S bright good color 3.2inch screen, there is quite a dramatic difference, wait until you see the 3.6 inch X1DII which is a big reason that people enjoy that camera.
I doubt leica will remove button for M, by looking my m10P next to me, the real estate on screen is quite big actually if it doesn't have a huge frame border around. I feel they can fit both button and 3.6 inch screen if they put some engineering effort. (remove bottom plate is one ) I do wish they can fit button to the right hand for single hand operation.
I love the way m10p it is however I don't mind m11 offer the best qualify hardware, it is a premium product so naturally, I want see Leica raise the bar. Hasselblad X1DII did great here with a screen and ergo experience to die for. Even with quite sloppy electronics performance, people love it.
Nothing that I am finding, regarding the M11, has caused me to consider selling my M10 or Type 246 Monochrom cameras. It is not that I am immune to new-camera fever, because it would be very easy to buy an M10 Monochrom, if I had the necessary ~$9K US, in my pocket. I would not, however, want to trade a 246 for it, as the M10-series bodies traded some capability, in order to achieve the narrower body. Plus, in low light, there will be times when that high-MP sensor will demand a bit too much of my hand-holding ability. (I have Canon 5Ds R and Nikon D850 cameras, which are not my friends, in low-light situations.)
Knowing that smart adapters exist, for using my much-loved Canon EF-mount lenses, on L-mount Leica cameras, has made it more likely that I would buy an L-mount Leica camera, than an M11. I may well be more likely to buy an L-mount Leica camera, than a Canon EOR R camera, because a camera body that can use my Canon lenses, and my Leica M lenses, is a very interesting proposition. There is no hurry, but that does seem like that it would be fun.
The rumored add-on EVF, that is backwards-compatible with the M10, does have my attention. I rarely want to use an EVF, but when using a lens wider than about 35mm, there are times that an EVF can provide valuable assistance. (I normally wear eyeglasses, while shooting Leica M cameras.)

Yes, the M10 series' battery does not last as long as the M240/262 series but I can't complain about it. The SL series battery performance is debilitating though.
The SL series performance in general is debilitating - I couldn't really stand it when I used it. Probably one of the reasons why Leica is offering so many discounts, special promotions, "24h test drives," and consistent price reductions on it. Feels like a miss to me.

All touch screen would be incredibly bizarre for Leica. The M series is all about the tactile operation of the camera, IMO. I can't imagine to many Leica fans hopping on that train, but perhaps I'm wrong. I don't own a Leica (way too rich for my blood), but I do own a poor-man's Leica in the Fuji X100V, which has more technical bells and whistles, but has a rangefinder-esque design and operation, and one of the things that draws me to that camera is the controls, dials, buttons, finder, etc....even on that if they went all touch screen (aside from the obvious two top dials seen in the M11 leaks), it would still be a letdown, and that's on a camera that costs a fraction of the M11, and doesn't have Leica's pedigree for amazing haptics.
“ The latest rumor regarding the upcoming Leica M11, courtesy of Leica Rumors, is that the camera will have a rear LCD screen that is larger than that of the M10 and larger even than the SL2. This rumor, coupled with a different rumor that the camera will have 64 GB of internal storage leads me to believe that the M11 will follow the form factor the TL and eliminate all buttons from the back of the camera in favor of a touchscreen-only interface. I believe this is will be a groundbreaking innovation for a professional camera, but one that is consistent with the Leica design aesthetic and consistent with how Leica sees the relationship between a photographer and their camera.-only interface.” —John Ricard

I'm all for big screens, but Leica fans will burn everything if this is true. This would be like Porsche making the next-generation 911 front-engine.”
