Some very nice pictures, thanks for sharing.
Is f/8 the equivalent aperture with the 2x converter, meaning the 70-200mm is at f/4 ?
I set the aperture using the camera body (M mode) with the aperture ring on the lens set to "A". With the 2x TC, you lose 2 stops of light. So yes, if I were to set the aperture using the aperture ring on the lens, setting it to f/4 would result in a working aperture of f/8.

You are a master Joshua! Didn't I tell you that?
Thank you for your well-balanced,honest,real life feed-back.Now I know that I will take 100-400GM for the similar job.
What a shame my 70-200/2.8 MK 2 is still waiting on the shelf, while eventually-acquired-after-one- year-of-deliberation G 200-600 was at work already.
I hope that the decisive day for the GM 70-200Mk2 will come soon, though!.
Thank you very much, Peire! After acquiring the G 200-600mm lens, my GM 100-400mm sat pretty much idle most of the time. Now, after I bought the GM 70-200mm II, I sold the GM 100-400mm lens to streamline my lens lineup a little bit.

Exactly what I did. But, I am still not sure that I should have sold my 100-400. It was such a good lens.

I think it is really good that you sold it (I'm the buyer ) It is definitely sharper than my last copy that I sold when I acquired the 200-600 (I now see the usefulness of having both lenses). It tolerates a x1.4 converter really well at 400mm; whereas, my last copy did not.... so, thanks!

In all cases I am happy that you are pleased with the lens. It is a very good copy for sure. It found a good home where it will be well used, and its quality recognized.

I packed up my 100-400 GM for sale when I received the 70-200 GM II, then I did some comparisons, the 70-200 is sharper than the 100-400 from 100-200mm, the 100-400 GM is sharper than the 70-200+1.4 TC or 2X TC, all at pixel peeping level. If I just look at the files on my 32" 4K monitor, without pixel peeping, it's very hard to tell the difference. I decided to keep the 100-400. If I know I would most likely need 300-400mm and I don't need f2.8, I will take the 100-400 GM if weight is not an issue. I guess it's the same reason why I have both the 100-400 GM and the 200-600.

So I’m on about 15 thousand on this lens. Folks this maybe even better than the 135 1.8. Sure slower but it’s a laser. With the A9II it’s just killer. I may buy it and sell my Batis 135 and Sigma 65. Than maybe go back for like a 75 voightlander. This lens is that good. If you need the bokeh this maybe not the best for it. But a laser with focal length options it’s hard to beat. I’ll post more soon. Been busy

I used it for an event yesterday and looking at the pictures I am just blown away as well. This lens i think has surprised me quiet a lot. So easy to hold, the oss works simply amazing, af is lightning fast, and the images have so much crisp and color to them it made me not even take out the 135 gm i had. There is nothing to not like about this lens. Absolute beast. Hats off to sony.
I will still keep my primes for those bokelicous sessions but damn this lens is a killer on my a7r4. Going to take it for some landscape shots soon and can't wait to see it bring a smile to my face 😁 I'll try to post some samples soon!

It definitely is a dream lens. That awesome cross section between industry work horse tool and delightful to use toy. Looking forward to seeing even more images from these lenses in 2022!
