In my case it's the opposite. Infinity is fine. But close/medium distance is not usable off center on the left (not even in the extreme edge or corner).
Yes, that sounds like my 2nd copy. It just was softer on one side close-up even when focused there.

Why is this thread in archive? I couldn't find it on the site directly. I only found it through Google. This lens is still popular, and the thread is still active.

Used it for a basketball game last night. Didn't realize I left my tracking on locked on, rather than responsive, so I struggled to hit perfect focus a bunch. Not sure it's a great sports lens but if I can figure it out it might be.

Another basketball game. It works, and I'll use it for some things, but fast paced action it's focus just isn't reliable enough. It's very good don't get me wrong but not where I need it to be. A bunch of instances where the first 2 shots will be in perfect focus, the 3rd and 4th will be too soft, 5th and 6th back in focus. Tried messing with some of the focus settings which helped a little.
My Viltrox 135 is more reliable (And a lot less ISO needed. I'm getting better photos cropping across the gym with the 135). Would love to hear if ya'll are having good success with it in action photography.

Still working it as a sports lens until I can snag a 70-200... but being able to go wider than 70 has been really nice. It absolutely HATES zooming in or out while AF-C.
Yep! First thing I did when I got the lens. I bet this lens would do better on an A1 or A9 series. The lower fps on my A7R5 means the misses are more of a hinderance, less keepers. But I really like the way it renders the background, and it's sharp. Even at high iso, plenty plenty good for social media and high school parents haha.
Here are a few from when I tried to shoot jpeg only a few nights ago.
