Enjoying this thread. As I write this I am waiting for my second copy to arrive. I bought this lens when it first came out and passed it on as i went through my "prime" only phase. Changing lenses in the field, or 2 bodies is not a plan for me anymore. Enter this lens, the ultimate "get the shot lens" with a strong bias as primarily a "portrait lens" based on its rendering properties. Yes to travel, light sports, landscapes, but a nice counter balance to icy sharp primes. The 28-75 and 70-180 are nice lenses but Dustin Abbott's review pretty much sums up why this lens is preferred for its depth. This lens hits the weight limit for hauling but does not exceed it. I feel complete with this lens in the kit.

Mine arrived today. First shot was of this dove on our back wall at 150mm. Deep crop since I couldn't get that close. For my purposes this is plenty sharp. I'm going to enjoy using this lens on vacations and general shooting.

Tried some simple portraits in the back yard to see how the lens did. It's sharp at all focal lengths and is quite nice to my eyes. Bokeh looks good. First one is 150mm at f2.8. Second is 100mm at f2.8. The third is a crop of the second.

While I'm tempted to get a 50-150 f2 for sports work that needs a faster AF, this lens is a killer for my team and individual shoots. It goes from a wide team shot to a tighter individual shot without having to change lenses. And it's sharp.
