Here we go

Just a few quick snapshots to test the functionality and focal length range (all either 35 or 150mm – no crops). All at f2.8. Sony A7III. Will try f2.0 later. The weather is horrible today (no light, just wet and lots of fog). I hope that nice photos from many people will follow soon. Maybe we can keep this as an image thread only. Surely helps people who just want to browse some pictures.

There's a discussion thread as well https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1712652/28#15749296

In the absence of a model, Blake has to serve again for test shots. Again on a very foggy day.

Twice 35mm, twice 150mm. Open aperture.

Nice shots all. Initial impressions? Focus speed...weight...sharpness etc.

I'm intrigued by this lens. Just pinged my LCS to see about trading in my Tamron 18-200 towards the 35-150.
Not super happy that it's 2x the weight but love that this is a fast lens in a very useful range. If I really need the reach I would just punch into crop mode so going from 200 to 150 doesn't really bother me too much.

While the following aren't particularly great shots compared to what others will undoubtedly post, they are what I have on hand so far. We went out to take some shots of these athletic style wedding bands and were in a bit of a rush, so didn't have much time to plan out shots. But here are a few with very minimal editing. I must say, regardless of pixel peeping, it is really nice to be able to go from 35 f/2 to 150 f/2.8 with the flick of the wrist. Oh, and of course it wouldn't be a proper post if I didn't include the pup.

I am also intrigued by this lens. It would be interesting to see a comparison with the Sony 24-105mm F4 G lens at 35 and 105 mm, preferably out-of-camera JPGs. The images I have seen so far in this thread look to me as if they had been taken with the 24-105 F4 lens, in terms of contrast.

I agree. I’m curious to know if there are any downsides to this lens on the long end compared to the optical stabilizer on the 24-105G. With so many owning the 24-105, I’ll be watching to see/read their thoughts…

Some more shots just for reference for those interested in the lens. These all have almost no PP - just raising exposure a tad. (except for editing out the dog's red rocket )

I must say, it is really really nice being able to go from 35mm on the wide end to immediately cranking it in to 150mm for a close up. It's a big heavy lens no doubt, but that sure is a nice focal range for a lot of the stuff I do.

Further below are some of the few shots that are usably in focus of the dog running a couple days ago. My A7RIV can't seem to keep locked on his eyes no matter what lens I use (probably my error in my settings), so I found my hit rate to be neither better nor worse than the crap results I've ever gotten with any lens I own when he's running right at me. Regardless of lens, my camera in that situation focuses on his collar, if that. I imagine an A9 would have a far better hit rate in that scenario.

Last shot is taken inside at night in fairly low light. AF had no problem focusing on his eye.

Work day boredom. Our pup is 11 months old and doesn't know how spoiled he's been to have us both WFH his whole life. He thinks having to wait all day to go to the dog park is the absolute worst.

A few more from this week just to bump this up.

The globe cropped shots were just a test to see how much increased contrast and sharpness there is at 150mm between 2.8 and 4. On my copy, a lot.

Thanks for these!
A couple of observations from my side:
1) it seems that background is smoother than the foreground, which I think I generally prefer
2) the difference in contrast on the globe shots is pretty big I'd say. Were those shot at MFD or further away?

Not quite at MFD, but fairly close to it. About 4ft away. It does get extremely sharp at f/4 near MFD, which for my purposes will be useful when wanting to take close shots of mountain wildflowers.

Great set of images showing the range of this lens to capture shallow DOF in both wide and telephoto images. I must admit I'm tempted to trade in my 70-180 to try this one.

At MFD that could be explained by some undercorrection, which can be a good thing depending on what you shoot .
