I am not a portrait photographer and had no similar lens to this in my arsenal. I'll be going on trip to Uganda for birding this coming January, but we will also do the Mountain Gorilla trek. Therefore, I needed something versatile that can let in enough light for the gorillas. I think this should do the trick!
First time messing around with this lens. It is a pleasure to use. I travel with and carry the 200-600 all day, so the weight of this thing is nothing to me. No issues there.

Just curious, for the shot where both boxers' face are visible, what focusing mode (ie. afc, wide, eye tracking) did you use and whats your % of in focus images?

I use continuous focus spot medium. No eye tracking, and about 90%.

WOW! Fantastic shots @turbodude. It's great to see the lens was able to deliver for you. I would imagine having that focal range was a big benefit @f/2.0-F/2.8. Images look stellar, thanks for sharing.

When I purchased my GM 50 f1.2, I expected an outstanding lens and that is what I got. When I purchased the Tamron 35-150mm lens, I expected a really good zoom, but what I got was an outstanding lens. The sharpness and contrast from this versatile optic are just amazing.
Yesterday, I attended a Renaissance Festival. It was bright mid-day sun and what shade there was mostly yielded 'dappled' light. I normally would not even bother taking my camera out under these circumstances (unless I had my 600WS strobes to overpower the sun), but I took some shots as I was anxious to test this lens. The shots, below, are 100% crops of the eyes, since I would be embarrassed to show the (already deleted) full-body shot(s).
For portraits, I normally use primes such as the GM135mm, 105mm f1.4 ART, GM 50mm f1.4, GM 35mm and Sigma 85mm f1.4 DN. I am not saying that this zoom can exactly replicate the best of those lenses in terms of contrast/sharpness, but I must say it is really, really close and it would take extreme scrutiny on my 5K, 27" monitor to see the difference. I couldn't be more pleased and this lens will make a great street/travel lens, combined with a wide-angle.
One thing that really impressed me was the contrast. It is far better than the old GM 70-200mm f2.8 that I had.
I shot these on my A7RIV, as I wanted to see what 225mm crops would be like (they are great). Since I do not shoot a lot of sports and do not need the quad linear focus motors of the new, ultra-sharp, GM 70-200mm f2.8 II, I cancelled my pre-order, after shooting the Tamron. I shot a sequence of someone running directly toward me with the Tamron lens and every frame was in perfect focus. I typically use my fast focusing GM 135mm f1.8 (or GM 100-400mm) for sports, anyway, with the A1.
The following are 100% crops of RAW files directly from ACR with no additional sharpening applied:

Fantastic shots of real-world use case! Also, fantastic fight too, I'm jealous that you were ringside
The 35-150 is shaping up to be a very versatile lens.
thanks! i will be using it for a parade on Thursday and some video tomorrow to make sure we are good to go, but if it could handle Saturday night, it can handle most situations. Ill try it on NHL hockey next week.

It'll really be an amazing lens if you use it Saturday and it magically makes the Canucks kill penalties and score on the PP

Well playing us, that first part may happen regardless of if the canucks play well or not… 8.7% pp… uggggghhhhhhhh
Hahaha that's right...I was shocked to see the Knights PP ranked below ours...at least your team has an excuse, missing key guys like Stone and Pacioretty.
I'm excited to be able to cross the border to watch a game again...I feel a Seattle/Vegas/LA trip some time in the future, let's hope the NHL scheduling gods make that happen one year

Haven't had an opportunity to get out and capture much more with this lens so far, so here's some more of the pup from various focal lengths. He's not much of a book reader, but he enjoyed the earned treats.
