One issue there, when i look at the rear element there is something on the inside that looks like a white speck. Would you accept this on a new lens?
If you can't blow it out using a rocket-blower I'd be inclined to send that back.
Does it affect image quality? Is it visible at f/22 in your shots?
I got my 35mm yesterday but have noticed it seems to exhibit some odd behavior, not sure if it's the lens the camera or something I'm doing wrong with it. I use it with an A7riii and at f1.4 the lens seems to work pretty good and the images are very sharp through to f2.8. After that the images start to get very soft and the AF isn't accurate as I can get sharper images manually focusing, although even something at f5.6 is softer than f1.4. This is especially apparent for landscapes at infinity where the lens won't focus to infinity.
Here's an example of what has been happening with the left at 1.4 and the right at f8. I have tried my sony 24-105, and tamron 70-180 and neither have this issue so I don't think it's the camera but not sure if I should be looking to exchange the lens for another copy.
Left Side F1.4 Right Side F8 100% centre crop with AF-S
I had centering/sharpness issues with my 35mm gm. basically the same you had—sharp in one side soft in the other. NOT normal. i think qc on these lenses is poor, definitely return it. for the price they are asking it’s unacceptable. i won’t be purchasing gm in the future from what i can tell. i don’t feel like getting blacklisted from bh by buying another one so i got the sigma 35 which was perfectly built and better in pretty much every way.
