Tonight’s starry sky above cliffs at Zion National Park. Single exposure. Glow on the cliffs is from the town of Springdale right next to Park boundary. The 35GM wide open at f/1.4 performed amazingly well, sharp across the whole frame.

I’ve decided to take the 35GM as my main lens on a trip to France in a few weeks. I’d forgotten just how good it is until shooting it recently. One thing I love is the close focusing ability. I’ll be posting some images when we get home from vacation in a couple days. It’s just a stellar lens. Especially for people. I LOVE using it at f1.4 in crop mode as a 50/2 for people shots.

Hey Eric! Look forward to seeing your 35GM images from vaca and upcoming France trip. I agree it is a fantastic optic, really well balanced in all parameters of 1.4 speed, size, weight, balance on camera, sharpness across the frame. I added a Z8 to the mix for fun (still love my A7RV) and it’s been enjoyable to shoot with, so much larger than the Sony but still feels great to hold and carry around. Used to shoot the D850 and it has that DNA.
We were in Paris for the first time last May and loved it so much we are going back. It’s such a great city.
That happened to us once - 6 trips ago, and headed there again in June.
Over the years it has just gotten better and better as we became less tourists and more wanderers.
Just can't get enough... Enjoy it to the max - you definitely have the right hobby for it!

i always feel like i'm working to not miss the shot with 35mm... and then i get back on my computer and am totally satisfied by the keeper rate. when i go out with just a 35mm i am always pleasantly surprised by the compromises in composition i have to make, even if it felt too wide or too tight at the time.
when i go out with a 50mm it is even more pronounced how many "missed shots" and yet more "wow keepers" there are, haha. i know i don't need to explain the two most famous prime focal lengths in history, but always enjoy the practice of using just a 35 or 50, and the 35gm and 50 1.2gm make it so nice. the unedited contrast and sharpness out of camera began to really stand out with GM lenses for me starting with these two lenses in particular. as someone who had been using the original 16-35gm, 100-400gm, and even 24gm for years, the 35gm and 50 1.2gm are when i feel sony really hit their stride and the photos stopped needing so much editing.
obviously this lens shines best at environmental portraits, and my best shots from this day fall into that category. but i am not ready to post my kids' faces a bunch, so here are some other samples from valentines day in downtown LA.
