Going by how sharp vanilla 28-60 is, these are going to be super sharp i hope.
Sony G zooms are great, and only two G primes, 90 and 20 are superlative. These will be equally good.

Lenstip tested the Tamron 24/2.8, they say it痴 better than the Zeiss Batis 25/2, https://www.lenstip.com/586.4-Lens_review-Tamron_24_mm_f_2.8_Di_III_OSD_M_1:2_Image_resolution.html . Scroll down to the second graph. If Tamron can, then Sony can, I hope. This test is rather shocking about the Batis 25/2, btw.

Yep, at those speeds, they need to be Sony 35 2.8 small. Personally I'm more interested in the Sigma 28-70 rather than slow primes.
I've got one coming next week, and a trip to middle america, cant wait to use it. That said, a 400+g lens is quite different than a 100g lens in a few ways. When I point the 35, people dont run for the hills, they smile. I suspect the 28-70 big enough to get people dodging.
I'm looking for the 50 to replace the nifty 1.8 I have right now, dont like the motor, willing to give up aperture if the size is right. A collapsible 85mm f2.8...... would be tremendous......

I would expect not quite as small as the 35/2.8 but still small with the build, polish, and optical qualities of a G lens, like the 20/1.8. I would expect a modern design that is sharp but also prizes rendering. I would also expect a price for each similar to the 20/1.8--about $898, or maybe $100 less.
If they can't do all this, I don't think there is a reason to give up apertures. I think they can do it. Sony has become an optical powerhouse.

Sony used to make a small A-mount 85/2.8, which was a Sonnar design. Maybe that lens could be modernized with internal focus.

I expect 24/1.8 G and 50/1.8 G, they would complete directly against Nikon's 1.8 S line but with lower price tag
The 40 is likely a 2.8 pancake to compliment A7c.

That is what I was expecting too, but I have not seen Nokishita actually be wrong. I expect his report is correct much more than my expectations and guesses are correct.

Actually Sony seems to be late with these lenses. Tamron and Sigma beat them to the 24mm, and Tamron has a 35 f/2.8, Sigma has a 35 f/2 and 45 f/2.8, and Zeiss has a 40 f/2 that will compete with the 40 f/2.5. Sigma's 45 f/2.8 (as well as the Sony f/1.8 and Sony f/2.8 macro) will also be competing with the Sony f/2.5.
Another way to say that is Sony isn't adding anything very new at all to the system with these lenses. I find that a bit odd when different lenses would add more to the system (e.g., a 24 f/1.8, a small 40 f/1.8, a small 50 f/1.4).

Good points!
The Zeiss Batis 40/2 is by no means compact or small, though.
The selection of small, compact primes for Sony includes third party AF lenses (Tamron, Sigma and Samyang) and will thus be much larger and richer than for the closed Nikon Z-mount, which will get only two compact primes, 28mm and 40mm.

Looks like you are right. They are two 2.5s and one 2.8, all focused on compact size. I'm falling behind on news.

I am really excited about this a7C line and the lenses they hinted they want to make for it. If we end up having a separate set of small zooms and primes for C series, it will be all i can ask for. I have no doubt a7C is a commercial success for them. I also like that it came at a juncture when their AF etc has matured a lot and they are on their 4th gen bodies.

At least they'll have a probably better 28mm than the FE version...

But then the Batis is an f2 lens, not 2.8. I personally would rather add a big of weight and a stop faster as the Batis is by no means heavy. If one shoots in good light, the 2.8 lens might be ok, but using 2.8 lens in dim conditions results in boosting the ISO a bit too far.

I have the Zony 55/1.8 and have no desire for the bulky Batis 40/2, optical aberrations be damned.

While I welcome new small lenses...I've got a sharp Zony 35 2.8 and 28-60, so my compact lens needs are covered for now. Still interested to see how small these things are and what they cost.

Hm I think f/2.5 with in-body IS should be fine for most travel situations. E.g last year I was in Venice for a few days and the alleys are really dark at night, way darker than the streets in most bigger cities. I got away with a non-IS 35mm f/1.7 on APS-C (just). So the 50 would have been fine. You must be taking pictures in incredibly dim places 😃 But people also have different levels for what is acceptable noise, of course.
