Between the 35 GM and 50 GM, which do you find a more satisfying purchase? I have the 24 GM and 85 1.8 and I need something in between, mostly to take pics of my small kids. Thanks!
The correct answer is both. I don’t have my 50GM yet, but personally I’d lean toward 50 over 35 for kid pics. Given that you have the 24 for when more context is needed in the frame. I would have said 35 to go with the 85, if you didn’t have the 24.
Keep in mind though that the 50 is quite a bit heavier than the 35, if that matters.

I have only just gotten the 50, but for younger kids I would always reach for a 35 over a 50. A 35 is wide enough where you can follow them around whereas with a 50 I think you need them to be patient enough to pose. What I can tell you after a day is that the 50 is certainly quite a bit larger but both are really fantastic in terms of image quality, neither is lacking.

B&C in Vegas had two come in. I was able to snag one. Coming early next week. No sales tax!!

The status was always "backordered" since the moment you place the pre-order if I remember correctly. We just have to wait and see if our orders end up getting shipped tomorrow..

I don't need my kid to hold a pose for either of the 35 or 50, given the AF capability of the latest Sony bodies. I do agree though that a 35 will be more versatile for kids indoors cause they tend to move around too quickly at time to frame them easily with a 50 (of course still very much doable).
I haven't shot much with my GM 50 but here is a couple of shots with an RF 50:

To my surprise, the smaller shop I ordered from got the lens in faster than Adorama. Granted, Adorama is closed until Wed, but ordering from the other shop saves me on tax. Mine will be here Thursday. I will cancel my preorder from Adorama and hopefully it helps someone waiting in line for it.

Congrats!
I've been trying to stay patient and just stick to my B&H order since the payboo card is about the only way I can avoid tax unless I start calling up smaller shops in other states.

That's probably the way to go. It doesn't look like there's this mass shortage as was earlier reported in Japan. I wonder if that was Japan specific or a CYA announcement by Sony in case something unexpected happened in the supply chain.

I think it will be the same as with 35GM, so initially we thought the issue with the faulty front ring was local to Japan, but it soon turned out it was global (the shop I bought mine told me they had the lenses weeks before but sony ordered them to wait until the issue was clarified).
Looking at the situation in Poland now, I think the initial shipment is all we're gonna get until September (it's already sold out everywhere and there's no information about new shipment coming in soon).

Yeah, the announcement by Sony certainly made it seem like it affected things globally. I guess it's anyone's guess which market is most affected. The shop that got the 50 GM for me failed--at no fault of their own--to get shipments of the 35 GM before the bigger shops, so I had presumed it would be the same for the 50 GM.
Hard to predict how these things work when I'm not involved. I have a friend that works in supply chain management for a big subsidiary of Sony and he says that COVID has affected EVERYTHING.

This was an emotional rollercoaster D: lol
No way to tell until after tomorrow I guess, when B&H re-opens.
I'm also keeping my eye on BestBuy since they didnt accept pre-orders and the lens is still "coming soon"

I talked to BH today and asked about any incoming shipment. He basically said no news on his end. Also applied for the pay boo to get the no sales tax deal and was denied... lol. My credit is 800. They wouldn't tell me why but said they'll send a letter explaining. So can't wait to see what that's about.

Meh thats kind of what I was expecting the response to be, so I didnt bother trying to chat/call them again.
Amazon has an estimated ship date of June 1st though. So I'm hoping B&H's next batch will be around then as well.

Not getting much luck with the two copies of the FE 50GM I've received so far.
The first one had a noticeable tilt and a slight swing at the mount and the second was not as sharp at center in comparison. (also not well centered but a little better)
As soon as I get an optimal copy to test, I will start a review on it.
