FWIW I noticed that Sony's Imaging Edge Software was updated last Tuesday with A1 support. Not that I'd use that software but I guess it will be one way to open RAW files if LR and C1 etc aren't updated by March 4th.

Edu pricing is available on B&H: $5,848.20
Can people actually order at this price if they are EDU qualified? I would be surprised BH would offer EDU deal before the camera even hits the street.

The fact that they went to EDU pricing so soon suggests to me that their expected stock has not been exhausted by pre-orders. $6500 is a lot to pay for a camera that has not yet been carefully reviewed and assessed by anyone. Some of the A1 features would be desirable for almost anyone, but other features, like the 30 fps and 8k video, are limited in their appeal.
That said, I find the camera terribly appealing. But I want to know about the DR and the high ISO/low light performance.

I bet ya I could get one on release day without the pre-order.
I am guessing $5000 is a physiological barrier for a lot of people to cross for a camera body, not saying the A1 is over priced but it certainly is pricey. I spent $800 on two 160GB CFexpress A cards, that's more than 10% of the camera's price, just for two measly cards. I am sure it will come down in price over time.

Agree I think maybe even 4800 compared to the A7rIV at what 3200 could even be a push. If it was 5 grand we would not be talking about it id be hitting the buy button case closed.
At 6500 I have to tell my wife. Not sure my helmet would be enough.

I admit I ran the numbers if I sold both my A7c & A7RIV, plus sold the 40 1.2 sold I'm not using, could I justify it or not....besides the money, I had two reservations. 1) I like having 2 bodies. 2) Having the A7c around has proved very useful, and I have a wife-factor too. Not because of the money, but because she oftentimes take the A7c, throws it in her purse, and uses it at our daughters events that I can't attend. She's good enough to get by with it and has helped get volunteer hours in (and a corresponding fee reduction for us) at different events by taking pics and posting them online for parents. And between you me and the lamp post I'm not sure I want her throwing, with lens, a potentially $8k camera in her purse to head out with for the day.

You guys in the US have it easy....I have to look at a $9,000 price after tax and remember back in 2011/12 my dollar was on par with the US....unfortunately my income hasn't increased by 30% relative to the US since then. I know it is over $10K in AUS.

To me, the all important factor is not if the camera can do 30,20 or 10FPS. I would be happy even with 8-9 FPS.
Whats really important from my perspective is the auto-focus, the 50 megapixel sensor, the elimination of rolling shutter and AA filter, the dynamic range and the white balance.
If the image quality and sensor flexibility is good, 9 FPS will do it any day. But the 20-30 FPS is a nice additional bonus.

So BH say March 4th. Anyone getting any confirmation on that from them or even Adorama
I got confirmation of March 4th from Canada dealer. B&H is rarely wrong once they have a specific date. Unless Sony comes out with a delay notice in the next 4 weeks.

Does the embargo include the 4th or will we have a review party in a few hours?
I think the embargo is on until 10AM eastern time tomorrow. I believe that's what Jared Polin had stated in his unboxing video. (Not a big fan of him, but desperate for something to watch.)
