Wow, is all I can say (at the price, too)! It's basically the best of all worlds unless there are a bunch of compromises we don't know about it. I think I'll probably pre-order one once available.

$6500. That's all I have to say.
That's not a dig at the camera. The specs look amazing, and I'm sure it'll be a zinger of a camera once it's out in the wild. It's just that it's going to be EXTREMELY hard for me to even approach justifying the purchase of that camera. It's just $6500 is an insane amount of money.

One to rule them all. Most of us will be waiting for trickle down... the price proclaims that Sony are still very committed to the segmentation across multiple cameras and lines.
At $5000 they would have sold a lot of these. They built a fort around the msrp of the a9 line. Lol
So what’s left for updates for the a9 series?
What about the a7r series?
A7s series.
This camera apes all of them. And doesn’t leave a lot of room for improvements in those lines. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hella slick that they put all this tech into one camera, but it's hard to imagine anything but a trickle of the key features from this camera into the others.
a9iii - 25 fps, bird eye af, better buffer?
a7siii - 8k and over sampling at other resolutions?
a7r5 - more pickles (even though it’s not an inherited trait from the a1)?
For me, I’m excited to pick up this camera in about 4 years when the a1ii appears with a better lcd and a bigger buffer and i guess a denser sensor (that’s about all I can think Sony left on the table)

I agree. Even though I have someone that wants to buy my guitar amp and cabinet for 3500.00 and I have not decided if I want to let it go. I think I just decided. lol

$6,500 prices this right at the Canon 1DxIII...that is their target product and set of consumers.
It's hard to rationalize unless you have that kind of money to burn or do this as a profession....and even in the case of the latter, you need to rationalize the cost to your business. For those who shoot pro sports or weddings full time, the camera does offer a lot of legitimately useful functionality that you can't get elsewhere.

Aimed directly at the Olympics and um, the rest of us can just wonder what it might be like to own. Like the pro series of the Canon lineup which incidentally it shares a name oh and pricing.
