Only time will tell, once we have more of these in the field for years. I’m inclined to be wary about the shutter blades being more exposed to dust and grit than they would otherwise. On the other hand, Sony sensors are grime magnets so it’s a tough call!

The A9II already has that feature after a FW update awhile back. I'm still undecided if it is riskier to have the shutter exposed or the sensor. I have been using that feature on the A9II.

I'd rather have the shutter closed, its a useless piece of expensive carbon fiber that will serve only one purpose on the a1, to block dust ;-)

Some reports mention dual Bionz XR processors, some mention only one.
Which is it?
At 3:54 of this launch video, it shows two Bionx XR processors. I have not idea if that means the A1 has two or it's just a generic picture showing the processors.

I know this is a silly question. Can someone confirm that with H+ 30fps, A1’s EVF is still real_time?
Thanks
Sony say the lag between the world and what you see in the EVF at H+ speed is about .03 seconds.
That is way better than any previous mirrorless, and I think probably close to what humans can distinguish.

Two; both with LSI attached as well according to Sony.
The older processor pcbs seemed to have two chips; one labelled Bionz X and one labelled Sony. The images of the A7SIII and A1 pcbs (prob the same image) show two chips that are both labelled Bionz XR. Sony just talk about the Bionz XR being up to 8 times nmore powerful.
So I don't think we can conclude that the A1 has two Bionz XR chips. More likely, a Bionz XR engine uses two chips which might or might not be the same.

Really excited to see how fast the buffer clearing is with a CFExpress Type A. This is one of my biggest complaints about the A9 series.
It looks like a lot of YouTubers have gotten their hands on it, but has anyone tested the buffer clearing speeds with an SD UHS-II card?
I really do not want to spend $400 on a 160GB card and want to see if the write speeds using SD cards are acceptable or just a bad idea.
Dan Watson did a test yesterday with his unboxing, I believe it was about 32 minutes into the video. If you scan through, you'll see him swap memory cards, which is where he

Dan Watson had a live stream yesterday and I was able to type in a question to get him to see how it cleared to SD.
He used the fastest V90 Sony Tough card and it was pretty slow. He was estimating only 2 shots per second writing but he was just counting in his head. He was shooting Compressed Raw (Lossy) + Jpeg (not sure what quality but probably whatever the default is when the camera ships). However that is about how slow the A9 clears 24MP Compressed plus Fine full size Jpeg so considering this is 50MPs it isn't all that bad.
The thing that is now confirmed by Alex is that you can do anything you want while it is writing to card. You can use all menu items, playback doesn't have the big lag going shot to shot and most important to me with a 50MP camera is I can switch between APS-C and FF. That really limited me with the A7RIV.
So I'm still going to try my V90 SD cards first before over spending on a CFe-A. I'm sure I will eventually get a CFe-A but it won't be a Sony one at their high prices. Even as prices fall (hopefully) Sony is always overpriced or at least top of the prices. Just look at their V90 SD and CFExpress Type B to see examples of that. I'm a big fan of Delkin and maybe Prograde. Although the Prograde Gold CFe-B is not great compared to similar priced Delkin. Prograde Cobalt is amazing but could be as expensive as Sony.
DPR's chart says that. The Sony press release right above that chart doesn't. Who to believe, Sony or DPR? I know where my bet lies That said, Sony's photos of the XR do show two modules. So it may just be nomenclature we are looking at.

Yes I saw that. I figured the table was lifted from a Sony spec sheet although Sony only talk about the "Engine" and don't say anything in the spec sheet itself. I'll sponsor you to take yours apart once you get it to let us know ...

Thanks. I saw that photo, but yeah, not sure there's actually two in the camera or if it's just a stock photo. Figured they would've at least mentioned that in the specs/description.
I'm also hearing that it doesn't have an AA filter, but they haven't mentioned that in the specs either.

Pius shared this with me....looks terrible but I'm fairly certain they were shooting a TV screen and I think that is confusing the AF. I've never seen my A9 throw random focus dots way off from the bird while it still has a few dots on the bird.

I hope this isn't how the Japanese use their gear, 600gm + body + Sony OLED TV + FX9 recording birds ....
