I'm a bit of a Mark Smith fanboy, I'm looking forward to his take on it as he tends to be pretty honest, and he uses the same equipment I do. Really want to see the noise from RAW so I can consternate even more over what to keep and what to sell :-) .

Spoiler alert: all YouTube talking heads will gush that they are liquidating their Sony gear for the A1. Every video will have a pic of them holding it with the sensor exposed and their mouths agape. They’ll claim that yes, it’s expensive, but it took their photography to the next level, despite only putting mediocre 100 pictures on it during their loaner period.
Except for Jordan. He will be most unpleased.
That's mighty cynical of you.
At 30 frames per second they could take way more mediocre photos than that in a very short amount of time.

I have NEVER considered doing a photography workshop, or paid outing with any photographer on the net. I can arrange things myself and have done so in the US, and many other countries. However, if and when it is safe to travel, my wife and I are booking an outing with Mark Smith. He comes across as a nice, honest and straightforward likable guy...oh...and who also takes shots that make almost all the YT talking heads look like they just took up photography as a hobby yesterday. Yes, I am a fanboy as well. Looking forward to what he has to say.

I did his osprey workshop in February and while you can find the spots yourself and shoot away, he was super helpful and offered really good advice. He helped me a lot even though I already 'knew' what I was doing. He is crazy laid back, and talented.

Just wanted to pass on some info I just received from my dealer.
He has no control over who the first A1 cameras go to because Sony is sending them to Pro Support registered members.
I am not in the Pro Support program as I'm not a pro and presently don't even have the two bodies and three G/GM lenses to qualify. Not sure if Sony's program is as lenient as Canon's CPS which for $100 they'd let anyone in that owned the right amount of gear.
So anyways, I may be waiting longer than I thought to get my hands on the A1. It will all depend on supply and how many Pro Support members are in Canada and requesting the A1 for day one delivery.
Not sure if it is the same in the US but I wouldn't doubt it.

I think you're being sarcastic, but I have to say that this is the best-named camera on the market right now.
Q: "What camera are you using?"
A: "The One."
I will probably get one of these because... it's awesome. But I won't get its successor because the name won't be anywhere near as cool. "The One Two?" Nope.

I taught about 30 destination workshops all over the country and it was really a lot of fun teaching others. Enjoy yourself

They will generally send a note to Pro Members and offer to move your order to the "front of the line". I did it for the A7R4 and 200-600mm G and generally I got both slightly before everyone.

I ended up being able to join Pro Support today even though I didn't have enough gear nor any professional website. Defiantly just a money grab like CPS. But works for me. I will check with them in a week or so if I don't hear anything about prioritizing my order. I would have joined Pro Support last year but I didn't think I would be accepted.

Like you said, pretty straight forward process. When I joined 4 or 5 years ago they wanted to see a portfolio of work and needed proof of a certain number of pro grade gear which I had mostly in A-Mount but way more than enough to qualify. The yearly cleanings and access to rentals probably make it worth it. The repair process - you get parts at cost + labor. I've used it 3x and came away not feeling like the costs were fair but that's another story...

Okay i did watch Marks video. Seriously he is the only one I will watch. As I though it’s exactly what I thought and even talked about flash sync and some other areas like flash with electronic shutter. He did not talk about LED light and banding which I need for sure. But I know it’s what I want. I will start planning

He is a nice guy. I have corresponded with him a few times and met him when he went up to Conowingo to photograph Bald Eagles. He created a YouTube video of the shoot. And I would like to do an outing with him for some osprey photographs.

Even though I left the Sony camp because my need for photography has shifted.
But coming from an A9 shooter, I am just here to say... Thank you Sony to keep pushing the envelope of camera technology.
Remember the day where when one flagship to the next gen, the increase was marginal like 0.5 or 1fps more, 1-2MP more... etc.
Sony came and showed the world how you REALLY do a new GEN flagship. A9 was groundbreaking when it was first announced. It broke many rules that EVERY camera before such as blackout, FF 20FPS with AF without extra battery grip.
Now the A1... wow... it carried everything the A9 had, and went a step further. No longer one needs to choose between speed vs. resolution. Good DR vs. good ISO... everything is there in one single package.

Tony pushing false balance like "we'll need to see/test electronic shutter distortion and EVF lag on burst shooting between A1 and R5" is funny. For stills these are pretty purely function of sensor readout speed and even A9 is way better than R5, A1 will be even more. And Tony should know these things by now.
