I was supposed to receive my lens today as Amazon’s tracking showed the lens as out for delivery in my city around 2:30pm. The next tracking update said that it departed an Amazon facility at 7:30pm in Ohio! Now, it shows arriving at the carrier facility back in my city at 9:30pm.
San Francisco, CA -> West Sacramento, CA (out for delivery) -> Wilmington, OH -> West Sacramento, CA
So much for using PTO to take receipt of the lens today.
Oh well, it’s 2020 and it’s my fault for expecting anything less than perfection.

The lens came in last night. (Finally!) I was surprised to see for myself how small this lens is in hand and how much smaller it is will both front and rear lens caps removed. I quickly put it on my M10M and took some test shots around the house to get a feel for the lens. It’s VERY compact! So much so, that I would grab the aperture ring instead of the tiny focusing tab.
Two things that irked me a bit so far, and one of those things was quickly remedied.
1) The front lens cap that comes with the lens just won’t stay on. Luckily, I had another 39mm lens cap from a previous Leica lens that I sold. Solved that problem!
2) Focus throw. The focus throw on this lens is very short. I wish the throw was longer, but my feelings on it might change once I get out and shoot with it.
I’m excited to try this lens on the M10M, but even more excited to run some rolls of various color film stocks on my M-A. I’ll post some shots in the main Leica image thread once I have a few I feel are “share worthy”.

BTW: For those hoping to use the CV 35/2.5 CS with the TechArt AF adapter on the Sony, it does not work because the lens is too short and its metal tab does not clear the bottom of the adapter.

It does however fit, albeit just barely, on the Fotoiox Pro Pronto! They're an ever so slightly different design on the front.
Wish I had brought the CV35mm/1.2II, but it was left at home. But I can say that it would have shown some onion rings here.
I like this comparison, thank you. I am assuming all three lenses are wide-open? I like the ZM 35, then the G 35, and then the CV 35 in this set even though I am not a big fan of the G 35 in general. It would be interesting to see them all at the same aperture as well.
If you do another comparison like this and include the CV 35/1.2, can I request that you don’t tell us which lens goes with which photo?

I'll plan on it! Right now I'm traveling though and only brought the CV35/2.5 and the ZM35/1.4. Colors are peaking in Michigan though, so I'll be sharing more from those two, I'm sure.

I am jealous, and please do post. I grew up in the upper Midwest, and most of my family is still there, and the falls are absolutely gorgeous.
Also, I realize not all lenses are there stated FL, but the disparity is very noticeable. Is that mostly due to that this test was handheld and informal, or is the ZM that much longer than the CV?

That's a good question. The ZM is slightly narrower, but the effect might be increased here by the fact that I was not only at its minimal focusing distance, but also using it on a helicoid adapter to get closer. I had a couple other shots with it using comparable framing/focusing distance, but they didn't turn out for other reasons.

Fred, I'm not upset to learn that I'll have to sell a kidney to use the 35 color-skopar on a current Leica body as opposed to the A7r4 - that's why I so value the forums and sharing experiences.
As background context, I bought my A7r4 for landscape exploration here in my exciting new PNW surroundings. OK, I'm stuck at/near home now. Still.
My goal researching pancake lenses is to gain more tools to take pictures moving through spaces with people (someday again I hope in my remaining years) without worrying those that observe this activity...as best I can within my photo budget. And up to my quality standards. The M2 in the 60s, 70s, early 80s filled that need so well. No one asked if it was a Leica! Now I think I'll stick with my XPro2 and X100T for a while. Maybe move on to the X100V or XPro3 someday. ...Show more →
Adding on to what Fred and others have said, the Rokinon is a nice little lens in terms of performance, but it's very much a 'documentary lens' and not a 'character lens.' It is sharp, has reasonable contrast, has reasonable autofocus (not good, but not abjectly terrible), terrible MF, and is built horribly (but is so light!). I like mine, but I will be replacing it with the Heliar at some point for when I want MF, and the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 when I want AF and something small (which might be something to look into, different focal length, but I bet the experience you are looking for). But that's a few years away, when I am finally (finally) done with school.
I dislike tab focusing and the grip would allow me to focus to my preference. Still deciding if I will remove the tab (which requires lens disassembly) or just add the grip around the tab.

I had some time to myself yesterday and decided to spend it in old town with the M10 Monochrom and this 35mm pancake. I've used this lens on my M-A already with some color film stock, but I haven't developed the film yet. I'll share some scans here and in the main Leica thread soon, hopefully!
Old Town Sacramento had the pleasure of hosting, for one day only, a replica of Back to the Future's DeLorean Time Machine for BttF's 35th anniversary (1985).
I did notice some vignetting at f/8 on shots where the sky was present. The only shot I cropped was the last one in order to remove some of the fencing and a person's foot.

I started this thread thinking I'd found the small 35 focal length lens I wanted for my walk-around on the A7R4. Two-thirds through Fred mentions in passing that the Sony sensor stack ruins the image!
From 1966 to 1992 the walk-around "job" was held by my Leica M2 and the 35mm f2 Summicron. I can't justify buying the current Leica bodies as a way to shoot with the Color-Skopar 35mm f2.5.
I am truly sad that there isn't a pancake this small that will work with the (unmodified)Sony sensor.
My other camera system is an assortment of Fuji bodies/lenses and I think as I type this I'll have to go forward with my existing lens/sensor carriers (aka camera bodies!) I do like my Fuji x100T, and I have an XPro-2 on the shelf. So I guess I'll have to work with one of those. Fixed-lens is truly pocketable and the XPro-2 with my 23mm f1.4 is, well, luggable. (I do like the 23mm's clutch...) I don't like 40mm equivalent but might have to see what Fuji's 27mm version 2 looks like - out soon.
Mattias Burling makes strong case for the M8 capability and its "reasonable" pricing. I think carrying that combo my eye would be thinking B&W... That and an interesting 28mm?
Arghhh. I want a true pancake for the A7R4, which I do not want to modify. All the other brands and models mentioned in this thread are too big except maybe the Ultron, but that's not really pancake. ...Show more →
Get that Xpro2 down off the shelf, I find mine a good successor after a lifetime of M3 and M6, no budget for current Leica offerings. With the 23 f/2 it makes images that stand up very well against either of the two 35mm Summicrons I used.
And regrettably the 35/2.5 Voigtlander isn't up to scratch on the Fujis either as they have a similar thickness sensor stack to Sony, albeit cropped. Mine is kept for the M3 and III I still have.

Just Bought the Color Skopar Yesterday... It's one his way back to the shop.
It was misalinged with the infinity focus ( Tested on a M6), maybe Voigtlander should improve their quality control.
