Thanks. The 100-400 ii + 1.4x iii is not my favorite combination though it’s relatively light and IQ can be solid if the subject fills most of the frame. If the subject is as distance, IQ breaks down quickly. I’m not convinced of the ibis/is efficacy of this combination with the R5; it seems much inferior to any long prime or intermediate telephoto. Have others noticed this? Yes, I’m using the latest firmware.

I have found the 100-400 v2 + 1.4 v3 TC to give excellent results; and the 2x v3 gives good results. Obviously, YMMV.

Please do post samples. I simply see too much softening in the periphery and again if the subject is not full frame, it breaks down quickly. The recent bluebird and downy image I posted was with the 100-400 IS II and 1.4 III TC and is pretty solid though again the subject was larger and I was able to crop the periphery significantly.
Also, have you been noticing IBIS issues with the R5 and this lens? I'm using v 1.0.7 and compared to a 70-200, 500 is ii and 600 is iii, the IBIS/IS don't seem to be working properly either in modes 1/2; the image is jittery in the EVF and it doesn't seem to make much difference whether it is on/off even though I can hear it engaging when I switch it on.
