DPReview of R5

At 9:09 - says it's electronic shutter, but it's clearly not 20fps footage.

I'm surprised that after all this time, I haven't seen a simple sequence of 20-30 images of someone running towards the camera, and an object going laterally with a simple hit-rate of images that are in focus at 20fps.

I think that is ES in Single Shot mode. ES is either 20FPS (which we've seen lots of recordings of) or Single Shot and you can pump the shutter as fast or as slow as you wish to.

Hopefully we get a true scan speed for the R5 soon. Then we need to see more reports of how consistent the AF actually is. Dancing blue dots and squares honing in on eyes doesn't mean anything unless the shots are actually precisely focused.

Finally a review on R5 for Photography. Looks like there is rolling shutter distortion when using electronic shutter (Check from 15.50) but the focus seems to be amazing and no overheating while shooting stills!

I’m impressed at how the camera stuck with the bird’s eye against that busy background.

I watched it. I don’t think he mentioned the readout speed.

The only thing he said about sensor read out speeds was faster than some mirrorless cameras... I take that to mean not as fast as others...

The z7 is "some mirrorless camera" 😄

Any thing uses the z7 as a referance is slow.

I take that to mean the a9 is in the other some 😂

Yes I figured that would be the case. R6 has been revealed at 19ms. I’d be surprised if they matched or made the R5 faster with the new sensor design. The rumour is 30ms.

Where did you find that number for the R6?

If those numbers are correct, the 1dx III has highest read speed.
I got distortion in the wings of fast moving birds (RW Blackbird) using ES, but no issue using mechanical shutter at 20 fps
You could comb your hair with its wing tips...

So first off this was not easy. 12:45 AM and we had friends over. I had several tasty Crown Royals and got back into these fine forums after they left. It has been a long month of trying to remember who said what and which 10 second clip of a video link was important. I know I posted this in a thread with a time stamp before but I could not find it so I skimmed through it again.

Minute 12:10. The link is from this post.

On another note and FYI. Crown is created and stored just one hour north of where I live. Warehouse after warehouse where they age the nectar.

I'm sure many people have hummingbirds around at this time of year. Can someone just put the R5 on ES and shoot a 1-2 sec burst of one actively hovering/feeding on a flower or feeder? Then post the entire string of 20-40 shots. That will tell me all I need to know about rolling shutter/distortion/scan speed.

Seems like it has a 1/60s readout from some informal tests..

&feature=emb_rel_end

this may have been discussed already somewhere in this 19 pages thread, but at 5:55, the photographer talks about the lag and displays it with the KF in flight sample. Unless, their settings weren't correct, this is not going to work for me with Peregrine in flight (both fast and unpredictable). Did I miss something?

The issue with their test is they used an older 500/4 lens and that lens doesn't support the full 12FPS MS mode. So what you see in those examples is one of the slower FPS modes. From other videos I've seen the 12FPS mode looks a lot less laggy due to quick frame insertion but there must be lag still there being hidden by the frame insertion. It is hard to know how it will really be unless you get your hands on one. There are FM users now saying that it is not difficult to track BIF. Chimping mentioned in the R5 review thread that panning with both MS and ES worked for him.
