I updated my camera but had no chance to shoot after the update yet. It's rainy season here and not much decent weather expected for the next 10 days at least... I'm curious about the dual base ISO addition and all AF improvements and any unlisted bug fixes. They seemed to focus a lot on the video side with this update and I don't shoot video... Was positively surprised that the updated showed up already as I was expecting it to come much later in the summer...
I'm curious about how you'll like the LVF-11, I still use mine more often than not and it does change the shooting experience a lot for the better but I wish it was more compact

I'm hoping that the focus square goes away when using a dumb adapter / manual lenses in Stills mode, and that Color Mode "off" can mimic a Log profile (eg neutral with ZERO sharpening artifacts) in video. There's no mention of mapping the rear scroll wheel to ISO, but maybe that will come. Those were my 3 man issues with the camera. The flickering black levels were driving me crazy, too, so we'll see! Updating now.
Still love the camera - finally broke down and ordered the LVF-11 viewfinder (pricey, but necessary) and am eagerly awaiting its arrival in a few days.

Yeah, not much in the list strictly for photo side but the AF improvements might be good and very welcome. I also have never tried the Cine mode on my fp. I hope they also think about Stills shooters more when it comes to future updates. In one of the videos that explain the firmware update they talked about adapted rangefinder lens users having shown a lot of interest in the fp so hopefully they would also develop some new innovative features supporting that kind of usage

Thanks for the heads up. I have not even tried the video... I guess not much on photo side...
I've updated mine and just messed around shooting with it. Color Mode = OFF appears to be a quasi-LOG profile, so that's wonderful. Meaning, no more sharpening artifacts in MOV video. Focusing square remains (bummer) still can't magnify during video recording or map ISO to rear dial (also bummer) but flickering seems to be completely gone.
For the life of me, I can't find anything in the menu about dual ISO and the documentation is vague, so if you find out how to use it, please let me know.
I was already in love with the camera, quirks and all, so v2 firmware is just a bonus. Juha Kannisto wrote:

I think the dual base ISO will work seamlessly so that once you go ISO3200 or higher, the sensor will switch to different configuration that helps dynamic range and noise performance at high ISO. My Sony A9 also has dual base ISO 100 & 640 that works seamlessly. Something like this tech:

Viewfinder: there is an alternative to the heavey sigma finder: A Japanese brand UN make 3 inch custom rubber 3x loupe viewfinder. I add 2 black headband to secure it and it is easily removable, 1/6 of the price of the sigma, reusable on other cameras with 3 inch screens.
Yep - I'm familiar. I waded through most of Jim Kaason's blog at one time, so I've definitely seen the article and welcome the transparency of what's happening under the hood. I had a hunch that a wonky implementation of dual gain tech was responsible for the flickering black levels. Something like the camera struggling to "decide" which gain to use, especially in low light. So much better knowing that if I'm doing low light, just stick to 3200.
The more I read about Sigma and the CEO, the more proud I am to have chosen this camera for my main rig. I'm a sucker for quirky underdogs with a lot of soul.

Yeah, I'm with you, but OP sold us out for a GFX 50R a few posts back. Can't say I entirely blame him, that and that one out of Solms are really the only others I'd consider.
Got a link to the alternative viewfinder? I'm still a bit salty about paying $300 for the official one, so maybe I'll downgrade at some point.

In one of the videos Sigma released explaining the new features they mentioned the this camera platform / sensor always supported this dual base ISO configuration but they had not enabled it with the earlier firmwares and now they had. They also showed some dynamic range charts indicating improved DR at high ISO with this change.

I (OP) actually came crawling back to the fp.
I was using the fp almost exclusively with the viewfinder on my first go with it, which ultimately led me down the path towards the GFX. The fp/45mm/vf combo is basically the same size as a gfx50r/50mm combo. So if I was going to carry all that around, might as well get the larger sensor to go with it. I still really like the GFX, but outside of the 50mm all the lenses are huge. The versatility just wasn't there for me.
I also vastly prefer the rendering from the 45mm C to the GF 50mm.
This time around with the fp I've been embracing it w/o the viewfinder most of the time. Outside of really bright light I've been fine with focus magnify and peaking with my manual lenses. The viewfinder is great, but I prefer carrying the camera w/o it. $300 is silly for what it is, but it is well made, fits perfectly, and when you need/want it it is really nice to have. It also changes the experience in a good way.
Also nice to hear your experience with the 50R's size. The lens you mentioned would probably be the only one I'd interested in taking out, too- so I feel better knowing that I'd probably leave it at home too often.
My LVF-11 just got here. Yeah, $300 is obscene for this, but whatever. It is very nice and I'd rather have a solution that I don't have to improvise a way to keep it on. In fairness, Leica would have charged close to a grand for a similar product.
It is absolutely GLORIOUS to use, after struggling with the LCD for several months now. My vision has gone to hell, so manual focusing without a diopter is rough. Soooo nice. It really feels like you are "inside" the scene when you shoot. Only downside is the bulk it adds, which is obviously a lot. I doubt I'll use it all the time became of that, but who knows!

That's a great way to articulate using the LVF-11, "'inside' the scene" . It's impossible to compare it to a traditional EVF.
If you are looking for a grip to go with the viewfinder, the Small Rig grip ($35-ish on ebay) works great. I find the grip helps with the viewfinder on there.
I've been shooting with my fp a couple of times after the firmware upgrade. I think AF was improved quite nicely and now I can happily use AF when taking long distance stopped down (f5.6 or so) city shots with the 45/2.8 DG DN. Previously I usually switched to MF in those scenarios to make sure I got nice corner-to-corner sharpness and with the new fw it doesn't seem to be necessary any more. I haven't seen any problems with the new fw so far, and the old issues I saw before (occasional freezes when zooming in from viewfinder view and when saving a photo on SD) haven't shown up at all so far.
I've been preparing LCC (Lens Color Cast) presets for all my RF glass for Capture One Pro 20 gradually. I shoot reference frames against the sky with an expodisc from wide open to f8 at all shooting distances that are marked on the distance scale of the lenses and use those to create a comprehensive set of LCC profiles for each lens. Those can be used quite nicely as presets in C1 Pro combined with other presets and settings and it's more pleasant than switching color shading settings on camera while shooting.
Some recent shots from this week (we had one sunny and hot day in the middle of rainy season) with my Sigma fp + recently acquired Voigtländer Color-Skopar 28/3.5 LTM that were treated with an LCC profile to remove color shading and post processed a bit in C1 Pro:
Most shots were taken either at f8 (long distance) or wide open at f3.5 (short distance).
I really like the lens, it has beautiful and sharp rendering up close as well as at infinity, but it does have quite noticeable color shading on the fp and on the other hand it has quite noticeable field curvature on my Sony A9 (not much noticeable color shading there). It can be used with both cameras quite nicely with some care though.
Ahhh, I was on a quest for that lens a while back! It has something akin to "Legend" status on RFF. Alas, I could never find one for close to a reasonable price, so I ended up grabbing an Elmarit 28 Asph for a little more than I was seeing the Skopar go for in the States. Your shots look lovely!!
*Edit - I also noticed that my Elmarit has more (apparent) color shading on the fp than it did on the Sony a7S.

It can be used with both cameras quite nicely with some care though....Show more →
"You can take a picture of a uniform color wall with the fp, and it can create a custom shading compensation in camera. It also allow user to save up to 10 lens profiles with custom name, so it can be recall on the next capture. I have set up profiles to all my wide angle lenses from 28mm or wider. This is working great, and I am not sure if any other camera can do this. (best kept secret of the fp)."

Thanks! I recently got into some auction hunting at Yahoo Japan Auctions and got this one and I also bought a Color-Skopar 50/2.5 to go along with it 28/3.5 is also going at a bit higher prices in the $500-800 range in Yahoo Auctions depending on condition and I paid in the upper range but it's in excellent condition and I really enjoy shooting with it.
