I put aside my regular setup (R5+600mm) and give this combo a try. I also figured that day there is focus breathing and that resulted in loss of MM at the long end. I tested the prime and the zoom side by side and there were significant difference (specially 10m to 20m range) in framing and bokeh.

Looking at a Great Egret in breeding plumage with I believe its tongue visible inside of its beak.
Cropped, tripod mounted 200-600mm G set to 344mm and A7rIII; silent shutter.
ISO 100, f6.3, 1/800 second.
Exposure Corrected +0.20 Stops.

Wasn't there a National Geographic photographer that replaced his heavy telephoto prime(s) with the 200-600? If I'm not losing my mind can someone tell me who it was?
