Adult peregrine falcons can take off by using their well-developed leg muscles to get airborne from standstill. This female juvenile needed a fairly long runway to get the momentum and at the end, she had to use the cliff edge as a “spring board” to get airborne but after that, it was all fine.

These are two images of her maiden flight. The first image shows also her brother that had to “duck” to avoid of getting clipped by her wing. I posted the complete sequence in the FM Nature and Wildlife board here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1681861. Please feel free to check it out at your convenience. Thank you!

Apparently she doesn't care about her wingspan as she smacked the other one in the beak haha

Thanks for sharing, always enjoy your peregrine photos!

Western Gull (A7R4).

I caught the gull with calm light on its eye. Enjoy.

A Dark-eyed Junco poses during a recent photo shoot. My first time out with the 1.4x converter and I'm quite pleased.

Birds from the Mendocino Coast. Bird photography is tough! I don't know how you guys do it. I had so many throw aways, but it was really fun trying to capture the various birds in the area we stayed. All handheld and many heavily cropped.

Also, I just realized all these had a -0.3 EV. That wasn't intentional.

Did you pan the camera to render the backgrounds moving?

Were these down at Aransas NWR? I made a trip just after Christmas but couldn't locate them in the NWR, it wasn't until I was driving out, a pair flew across at the entrance towards the shoreline

They weren't on the publicly accessible part of the refuge. I used a boat charter service leaving out of Lamar that goes along the Intercoastal waterway. I've had luck at the Heron Flats on the refuge before but not always.

mmm if you refere to the second series, there is no panning, the slight movement caught on the reed leaves are due to the wind and the movement inferred by birds' nervous moves... they keep on pruning and changing position, it's a very difficult task to keep them in frame (indeed it's a titanic job to get them in focus in primis, because at such distances DOF is very small, there are many obstacles from you and the subjects, which by their own never stay quiet and in the same perch... add low light so not too fast shooting speed--- there are tons of misfocused/not focused at all pictures).
