You know Joshua sold a lot of 200600s with his falcon shot. I think you sold the rest with this series, including the killer swallow over the duckweed. I think many worried about BIF with it and AF. I think you allayed a lot of those concerns. Sony will have your bonus in the post shortly.
Robert, BIF or the AF in general with this lens works just fine. This lens offers the best bang for your buck for wildlife/bird photography at this point. Wait, did I say this previously? Well, it deserves a repeat or 3-peat, I would say.
More falcon action and yes, FIF this time around, too.

You are killing me too, Robert!
Some mandatory zoo shots from this morning. What's better than a male lion's head to show off this lens and the 42MP from the A7RIII?. The Animal Eye AF could pick out the lion's eyes most of the time.
IMHO, sharpness of the 200-600 is the least concern when one is thinking whether to get this lens.

Excellent work Douglas.
I'll need to hit you up for the how-to on eye AF for my trip, assuming it might recognize a bear's eye, but if it recognizes lion eyes then shouldn't it on bears?
Too bad the a9 didn't get this update sooner....probably just as I return

Thank you Robert. If I were you, I would use the A7RIII for bears rather than the A9, just for the resolution. I don't think A9 type of AF and FPS are needed for bears.. But brown bears' eyes and their fur have similar color, there may not be enough distinction for the Animal Eye AF to pick out.

It's generally accepted that extenders should be avoided on slower zoom lenses, but this new 200-600 seems to not only do ok with a 1.4, but even a 2X! I mean good grief, it appears to give better results with a 2X than the Nikon 2X between a 500 f/4E and D850!
I would assume then that the 2X on the Sony 600 f/4 is going to outperform the Canon 2XIII on Canon's best glass & bodies.
This is all very upsetting.
I agree the results seem to be very good. I love the 2x on the Canon 400mm as you know. If Sony's 2x is even better than just wow. Good times for all.
I wonder how the 200-600 works with extenders vs adapted lenses from Canon. I assume the 200-600mm with extenders will still be faster?

The falcon image was actually a frame of some 20+ images. That’s mom that sadly left the scene. Of course, I wouldn’t bother posting the images over here but I made a selection of 6 of the sequence and posted them on the Nature and Wildlife board with some background information. If you are interested in seeing more, please feel free to check it out here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1609417. Thank you!

These zoo shots are terrific and it is good to hear that animal eye AF works on big cats as well as domestic cats and dogs. Can't wait to get it on the a9, which should be very soon.

No magical moment here, and yes of course I sharpened in PP, but the 2x combo at 1200mm is kinda phenomenal! You need everything to swing your way, and light at F13....well yeah, glad ISO performance is great on these.
